Next week, incoming Doctor of Ministry students from all three of our tracks, Black Leadership and Ministry, Spiritual Formation and Discipleship, and Organizational Leadership, will gather in Kansas City for their opening site visit.

This is where cohorts meet face to face for the first time, where relationships begin, and where the real work of doctoral formation gets underway.

As summer begins to wind down, we're looking back on one of the places that shaped this year's journey for students in NTS's Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Formation and Discipleship program: San Diego.

Like each of the program's site visits, San Diego invited students to step away from the familiar and enter a different context, learning from the people, places, and practices they encountered along the way.

At NTS, context is where the work of theology finds its truest fulfillment. Our students spend most of their learning hours immersed in their own ministry settings, but once a year they are asked to enter someone else's and find themselves in that new space.

San Diego was one of those places this summer. And as we look back, we're reminded that sometimes seeing our own ministry with new eyes begins by experiencing God's work somewhere else.

Pastoring After Mountaintop Moments is a three-week webinar presented by Dr. Hannah Jones-Nelson, youth pastor at Flint Central Church of the Nazarene in Michigan, designed to help you lead students well in the ordinary weeks after the mountaintop.

Week 1 explores implementing spiritual practices, week 2 looks at continued formation, and week 3 addresses pastoring students who are exploring a call to ministry.

Before a new semester began, our faculty stepped away together for a two day retreat to pray, plan, and prepare for the year ahead.

Behind every class our students take is a professor who has spent time not only preparing course content, but preparing their own heart to teach and mentor well.
