Good morning NKC-CTA Members!

We’re looking for members who are interested in getting more involved with NKC-CTA and helping strengthen our voice and presence throughout the district.
You don’t have to take on a huge commitment! We’re looking for members who are willing to help in ways that fit their schedule and interests.

🏫 Become a Building Representative
We are looking for MSTA members who would be willing to serve as a building representative at their school.
Building reps would help:
• Share MSTA information and materials with staff
• Distribute items and information in staff mailboxes
• Help make MSTA more visible within their building
• Encourage coworkers to become MSTA members
• Help connect their building with our NKC-CTA organization

You would be an important MSTA presence in your school and help make sure your colleagues know about opportunities, resources, and important information.

*Schools that already have building reps: Northtown, Oak Park, Antioch, Northgate, Gateway, Clardy, Gashland, Greenway, Meadowbrook, Oakwood Manor, Ravenwood, Rising Hill, West Englewood, EEC, Golden Oaks*

🏛️ Attend NKC Schools Board of Education Meetings
We are also hoping to create a rotation of MSTA members who can attend district Board of Education meetings throughout the school year.
Having MSTA members present helps increase our visibility in the district and allows us to stay informed about what is happening in NKC Schools.
Members who attend would also help report back to our MSTA membership so we can all stay informed about important district discussions, decisions, and upcoming changes.
You don’t have to attend every meeting—we’re looking for members who would be willing to take a turn when their schedule allows.

📣 Attend the Greater Kansas City Region MSTA Open Hearing — September 24
Open Hearing is an opportunity for members to learn about and provide input on proposed changes to the MSTA bylaws.
If you are interested in attending MSTA Convention in November, attendance at Open Hearing is required for Convention delegates.
The Open Hearing is also a great opportunity to meet MSTA members from school districts throughout the Kansas City area and become more connected with the organization.

Please complete our short MSTA Interest Form and let us know how you’d like to participate.

Hi Members! We have some easy tasks/information for you!!!!

🍎 Come see us at Convo! 🍎
• Confirm your renewal
• Confirm location in the district
• Current & returning members who stop by to complete these steps will get a small gift from the CTA and the opportunity to win a gift card!

🍎 Help us Recruit New Teachers 🍎
• With the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, we have not been able to directly reach out to new teachers this year. We were unable to provide a meal and were not provided with a list of new staff names/emails. We were not able to share that they do have a choice in their representation regardless of the message that they received during induction week.
• Please share about MSTA with the new teachers in your building! If they have joined another organization, let them know that they can easily switch.

🍎 Help us Recruit New Members 🍎
• Help us boost our membership by recruiting colleagues! Make sure your paraprofessionals, custodial staff, nurses, RBTs, counselors, food service, coaches, social workers, etc. who are employed by the school district know that they are eligible to join. Make sure they know that they have this opportunity so they can have liability insurance and access to the same benefits as you!
• Any new members who join will receive a small gift and the opportunity to win a gift card.

🍎 Member Service Coordinator 🍎
Beyond your liability insurance and legal services, you have access to a member service coordinator (MSC), Kim Belienski. She will be there to advocate on your behalf if you ever find yourself in need of assistance! You can reach our MSC Kim B by calling (800) 392-0532 or emailing at [email protected].

🍎 What is a CTA, where do those dues go? 🍎
CTA stands for Community Teacher Association. We are the local association for staff that work in North Kansas City Schools. Ever wonder what the $26 CTA dues are? These CTA dues are essential to our CTA. The funds directly allow us to conduct business/membership meetings, advocate for you in our Capitol Days, provide Teacher Appreciation items, and send delegates to our annual convention. We also provide scholarships to seniors throughout the district as well as our members! We keep these CTA dues as low as possible to ensure we can keep our district organization running smoothly. Please make sure those are included in your renewal. You can also pay your dues separately by check if preferred.

🍎 Get out there and share your MSTA stories and ensure none of your peers are teaching unprotected this year! Want to get more involved? Reach out to one of the board members.

🍎 If you have questions or would like talking-points about why MSTA is the organization to choose, feel free to reach out to any of the board members!

🍎 Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to representing you this year!

Your NKC-CTA Executive Board,
Courtney Campbell, President
Emily Metcalfe, Vice-President
Cathy Campbell, Treasurer
Madea Hayden, Member-at-large
Don Ward, Transportation Representative

Good evening NKC MSTA!

We are asking you spread the word to new staff in your buildings that MSTA is an option to join in our district

In the newest negotiations that occurred this spring it is stated that only one organization (WHICH IS NOT US) is allowed to provide new teachers lunch and information on their organization.

We need everyone’s help to let ALL STAFF know about MSTA, since we are not allowed to advertise at induction week.

We hope everyone is having a good summer! Part of our executive board went to MSTA leadership this month and we got to learn a lot about various parts of leading a CTA (local chapter), membership, and legislative issues. We also had a keynote speaker, Devin Seibold, who is a comedian and former teacher. Not only did we have lots of laughs, but we were educated on the importance of bringing fun/laughter/jokes into the classroom to build connections.

We are always looking for CTA members who are interested in getting more involved with our chapter. Please reach out to any of us!
