What a beautiful way to kick off a new school year! 💛

Our Early Childhood team is officially back, and we filled our first days together with learning, reflection, laughter, and a whole lot of heart. We spent time diving into Conscious Discipline, revisiting program expectations, looking at our data, and thinking about how our daily practices shape the experiences of our youngest learners.

And, of course, B. Rich brought the laughter! 😂 His energy reminded us that even while we are focused on the important work of teaching and learning, we can never lose sight of the most important piece—LOVE❤️

Because at the heart of early childhood, it all comes back to relationships. Children need adults who see them, connect with them, believe in them, and love them well.

Here’s to a new year of growing together, laughing together, learning together, and creating spaces where children—and the adults who care for them—can thrive!

Learning starts at home — and it can be full of joy!

Our School Readiness Kits are designed to help families build important early learning skills together through simple, fun activities. When families read, draw, write, count, talk, and play with their children, they are helping prepare them for success in school and beyond.

Family engagement matters. Your time, encouragement, and participation help children feel confident, connected, and excited to learn. Even a few minutes each day can make a big difference!

Even though it’s summer break, we are still working hard for our families! 💙

It’s diaper distribution time! Our Early Childhood team is grateful to partner with Happy Bottoms to help provide diapers for children and families in our community.

A big thank you to everyone who helped organize, sort, and prepare diapers so they can get into the hands of the families who need them. Supporting our families does not stop when the school year ends — we are here all year long. 💛

Sidewalk chalk, sunshine, and big imaginations — summer fun doesn’t have to cost a thing! ☀️🎨

While school is out, children can keep learning, creating, and exploring through simple free activities right at home or in the neighborhood.

Try a few summer favorites:
🌈 Draw sidewalk chalk masterpieces
📚 Read a book outside or visit the library
🫧 Blow bubbles and chase them in the sunshine
🌿 Go on a nature walk and look for colors, shapes, and sounds
🎶 Sing, dance, and make music together
🧺 Have a picnic in the yard or at the park
✏️ Practice writing names, letters, or numbers with chalk

Every little moment of play helps children grow, imagine, and stay connected to learning.

Summer brings so much joy — sunshine, play, laughter, bubbles, and moments to simply enjoy being a child.

As families enjoy these special summer days, it’s also the perfect time to prepare for the year ahead. KCKPS Preschool Programs will be having Open Enrollment today, Tuesday, June 9th and Wednesday, June 17th at 2010 N. 59th St., Kansas City, KS 66104, on the first floor.

Families can walk in anytime between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
