Our campuses have been busy all summer getting classrooms, buildings, buses and everything in between ready for a new school year, and we’re so excited to finally welcome our families back!

Here’s what you need to know for the next few days:

🎒 TUESDAY, AUGUST 18: First Day for K, 6th, 9th & New High School Students
Tuesday has adjusted arrival and dismissal times:

Kindergarten: 9:45 a.m. arrival | 4:00 p.m. dismissal
6th Grade: 9:00 a.m. arrival | 3:00 p.m. dismissal
9th Grade & New High School Students: 12:15 p.m. arrival | 3:00 p.m. dismissal

🎉 WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19: EVERYONE IS BACK!
All students return Wednesday, and regular school hours will be in effect. (Wednesday, August 19, is NOT a late-start.)

Académie Lafayette is deeply saddened to share the passing of Harriett Charno, a cherished member of our community who helped bring our school to life more than 27 years ago. Harriett was instrumental in securing the early funding that allowed Académie Lafayette to grow, giving our teachers the resources needed to deliver a quality French immersion education to the children of Kansas City.

Harriett's generosity was rooted in a simple belief: if you live in a community and earn your living there, you give back to it. She lived that value throughout her life, lending her time, creativity, and resourcefulness to organizations across Kansas City, including to our school. Her fingerprints are on every classroom and every student who has walked through our doors because of the foundation she helped build.

We are forever grateful for Harriett's vision and generosity, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. Her legacy will live on in our school for generations to come.

Rest in peace, Harriett. Thank you for believing in us.

⚽️ We are incredibly proud to celebrate Académie Lafayette alum Luca Antongirolami on signing with Sporting KC! At just 15 years old, Luca has become the second-youngest player ever to sign for the club, a truly extraordinary accomplishment and an exciting moment for our entire AL community.

As Kansas City continues to embrace the excitement of soccer on the world stage, it's inspiring to see one of our own making headlines right here at home. We love watching our alumni pursue their passions, achieve their dreams, and represent our community with excellence.

EduKit orders will be delivered directly to school and distributed when students return in August.

The World Cup is coming to Cherry! 🌍 ⚽ Our Cherry students are getting ready to celebrate the beautiful game with a series of friendly matches inspired by the excitement surrounding international soccer in Kansas City!

This Friday, June 12, we encourage all students to wear their favorite soccer jersey or colors representing the country or team they support. To kick off the tournament, our 1st graders will take the field for a friendly match and send their best wishes to Team USA! 🇺🇸

The fun continues on Tuesday, June 16, for Kansas City's World Cup kickoff:
🇸🇳 Senegal vs. 🇫🇷 France — represented by our 2nd and 3rd graders
🇦🇷 Argentina vs. 🇩🇿 Algeria — represented by our 4th and 5th graders

We cannot wait to see our students celebrate sportsmanship, culture, and a shared love of soccer.

🌕 Lune (loon) – moon

Look up this weekend! On May 31, we will experience a blue moon — the second full moon in a single calendar month. While it will not actually appear blue, the term makes this lunar event extra special.

Across the world, the lune has long inspired poetry, storytelling, music, and celebrations tied to the lunar calendar. As we approach this rare full moon, it is the perfect time to practice your French under the night sky.

✨🇺🇸 Last week, our 7th grade students continued a meaningful Académie Lafayette tradition by honoring veterans through the “Bringing Daylight to a Name” service project at Highland Cemetery in Kansas City.

Students carefully cleaned the headstones of African American veterans, placed flags at gravesites ahead of Memorial Day, and helped preserve the stories and memories of those who served our country.

Started in 2015 by science teacher Mme Desbleds, this annual project connects history, service, and civic engagement in a powerful hands-on experience for students. It is a meaningful reminder that learning extends beyond the classroom and into our community.

We are proud of our students for showing such care, respect, and dedication while honoring these veterans. 💙
