Balancing the Beef Equation: Why Charolais Genetics Are Winning on Dairy Crosses

Beef-on-dairy demand is surging β€” and Charolais is leading the charge. At this year's Texas Tech Beef & Dairy Symposium, the message was clear: as the industry updates its yield-grade "yardsticks" for the first time in decades, the traits that matter most are exactly where Charolais genetics deliver.
βœ… Charolais AI sires on Holstein dams are producing steers with dramatically improved red meat yield
βœ… That added muscle and ribeye size complements the marbling Holstein already brings to the table
βœ… Retail and food-service demand for high-quality beef keeps climbing β€” targeted beef-on-dairy genetics are helping producers hit 30–40% Prime and 60%+ Upper 2/3 Choice-which Charolais-sired cattle now deliver thanks to industry-standard heavier finished weights.

Charolais remains the proven way to add pounds of salable red meat without sacrificing the quality dairy crosses are known for.

What a week! πŸ‘ The first-ever CharAdvantage Week with Superior Livestock at the Big Horn Classic was a great success!

It was exciting to see Charolais-influenced cattle take center stage and showcase the value, performance and marketability they bring to the beef industry. Programs like CharAdvantage continue to create opportunities for producers to add value to their cattle through verified age, source and genetics.

A big thank you to Superior Livestock Auction, the producers who participated and everyone who helped make the inaugural CharAdvantage Week one to remember. We’re looking forward to continuing to grow this program and creating even more opportunities for Charolais-influenced cattle!
