🎉🐾 One birthday celebration? Not for Duo Dog Coleman. We're making it a whole birthday week!

Yesterday, we hosted a birthday party for our favorite canine and all his closest friends. The kiddos had fun creating puppy-themed snack bags before joining Coleman in enjoying his favorite treat: ice!

A huge thank you to our fabulous Angel Board for sponsoring the puppy chow bar, and to Angel Board members and two of Coleman's biggest fans, Lindsey Bruns and Britt Snorgrass, for sponsoring the Shivers Ice Truck. The kids loved their rainbow shaved ice, and Coleman enjoyed his with a splash of chicken broth. Although, if you've met Coleman, you know he loves ice so much he'd happily eat it plain!

Thank you to everyone who helped make Coleman's first birthday at The Children's Place so special!

With school back in session, The Children's Place on Wheels has been busy revisiting all of our friends at local early education centers and schools!

Some of our host sites continued through the summer, and we also met with many of our clients from The Children's Place on Wheels here at our main location through the summer if their school wasn't open. But there's nothing like being back on campus and part of the routine!

The Children's Place on Wheels visits six host sites each week, meeting with children for appointment-based play therapy sessions in this retrofitted mini bus. Last year the bus hosted 310 mental health therapy sessions. We can't wait to see what healing takes place on the bus this school year!

Have you seen any backpacks on clearance now that kids are back in school? We are in need of new backpacks here at The Children's Place! We use these backpacks to transport canned food home with the children we serve, so they get very heavy use!

Brad Johnson had a vision for The Children's Place to host a facility dog since his time on our Board of Directors in the early 2000s. When he heard a few years ago that we were applying to host a dog through Duo Dogs, he was eager to step in and help.

Duo Dogs, a national ADI accredited nonprofit based in St. Louis, trained our facility dog Duo Dog Coleman and cared for him his first two years of life, but the Johnson family generously cover Coleman’s ongoing expenses along with those of his staff handlers.

"Brad's efforts have touched all levels of the organization and spanned over two decades," said Ann Thomas, our President & CEO. "Brad recognized years ago that a facility dog would make a difference, and his vision is now our wonderful reality.”
