At Pitcher Elementary, our Foster Grandparents are integral to our classroom communities. We are so grateful to Reconciliation Services and their partnership with AmeriCorps that allows for more support for our students.
Congratulations for completing another year of service: Grandma Sharon (7 years), Grandma Cheryl (1 year), and Grandma Mary (1 year).

Big things are happening at Pitcher!
Big things, including Tuesday's Educator Grant story, are happening at Pitcher Elementary!
This KCPS school may be smaller, but it’s packed with big opportunities for its 260 PK–6th grade students. With an impressive 11:1 student-teacher ratio, Pitcher gives students plenty of support, connection, and room to grow.
Shoutout to Lori Sparks, KCPS's 2026 Teacher of the Year, for lighting up Pitcher's early childhood classrooms with compassion and leadership!
Students dive into hands-on STEM learning through Project Lead The Way, plus real-world experiences like wildlife field trips.
🎉 And the biggest news? Pitcher is getting a major glow-up in 2026–2027 with building upgrades and brand-new playgrounds ahead of a fall 2027 reopening.
Tiny ratio. Giant heart. Future looking very bright.

Thanks for helping us power education for our students!
Pitcher Elementary said: pass the pencils AND the popcorn.
Principal Kelsey Davis is turning hard work on state assessments into a full-on celebration of achievement for Pitcher students.
Her KCPSEF Educator Grant will reward students who scored Proficient or Advanced on last spring's MAP testing with:
🎬 a movie premiere experience
👕 exclusive “Pitcher Proficient or Advanced” t-shirts
🌠a pre-testing cookout this year
🏀 and a college visit to the University of Kansas
And this isn’t just about rewards. It’s about showing students what’s possible.
From exploring campus life to touring Allen Fieldhouse and hearing from student athletes about discipline, studying, and success, students will see that their hard work today can open doors tomorrow.
The message is simple: Study hard. Dream big. Maybe grab some popcorn along the way.
