Last Friday afternoon, we were so happy to hear a fantastic lecture by UMKC alumnus and composer Mikel Rouse. He shared many inspiring stories and experiences from his compositional journey with our composers, and we were deeply inspired by his talk!

UMKC Conservatory is Thrilled to Welcome World Renown Composer and UMKC Alum Mikel Rouse to Campus

Mikel Rouse returns to his alma mater, the UMKC Conservatory, to workshop his new piece "One Boy's Day."

Join us April 22nd, 23rd, and 24th at 7PM in Grant Hall 107 at the UMKC Conservatory for a dynamic, in-process exploration of this ambitious work—where the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

Our amazing composer, Kwan Leung Ling! His Chinese orchestral piece will be on air tonight—tune in! 👊👊👊

The 香港中樂團 Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and the HKCG Hong Kong Composers' Guild 香港作曲家聯會 jointly present this performance, using the enchanting sounds of Chinese music to narrate stories of Hong Kong. In addition to the open call for compositions, the concert has commissioned three renowned local composers — Chan Wing-wah, Hui Cheung-wai, and Alfred Wong — to create brand-new works. This collaboration brings together composers from different generations, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas through music. The selected works are: ‘Chanticleer’ by Chen Shuaike, ‘Lantern Lights’ by Ling Kwan Leung, and ‘Ging1 Zik6’ by Jero Leung. Yan Huichang conducts.

香港中樂團與香港作曲家聯會再度攜手，以扣人心弦的中樂聲韻，細訴城中的動人故事。音樂會除了公開徵集作品外，亦特別委約三位本地作曲家——陳永華、許翔威及黃學揚——創作全新樂曲，讓跨世代的音樂人齊集一堂，讓不同世代的創作人透過音樂交流對話，展現多元而充滿活力的創作面貌。音樂會入選作品包括：陳帥克《司晨》、凌君亮《燈火》，以及梁俊灝《驚蟄》。音樂會由藝術總監閻惠昌親自執棒，於2026年3月13日在香港理工大學賽馬會綜藝館舉行，第四台現場錄音轉播。
