Longfellow Elementary is a neighborhood school in the Kansas City Public Schools.

The original two-story building, named after poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, opened its doors to to 314 students during the 1890-91 school year. The building had just eight rooms.Alumni often held reunions to celebrate the school’s historic past. Veteran broadcaster Walt Bodine, a 1934 graduate, was among the thousands who have passed through Longfellow’s doors as students.

This was Longfellow’s last sixth grade promotion ceremony. It was a success! Thank you Ms. Bellman, Ms. Smith and Ms. Walker for ensuring our students went out in style. A huge shout out to Cable Dahmer Chevrolet of Kansas City for sponsoring our 6th grade students. Their very generous support ensured our 6th grade promotion was amazing! Thank you to our parents as well. We love our parents.

Ms. Ebling is Longfellow’s Teacher of the year for 2022-23! She is so caring and kind. She ensures that her 3rd grade students are encouraged and engaged in learning everyday. We are so lucky to have her at our school. We love you Ms. Ebling❤️

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Jennifer Collier as the official Kansas City Public Schools superintendent.

Dr. Collier makes history as the first woman and first Black woman to serve as superintendent. We’re thrilled she’s chosen to continue her 23-year career serving .

“We will be ambitious. We will demand the best for our students because they deserve a first-class education. Most importantly, we will move forward together,” said Dr. Collier.
