Start with a clear standard.�If a request compromises safety, outcomes, or your clinical judgment, you should refuse service. Always. No exceptions.�Protecting your license and your patient comes first.
Not all refusals are equal.�Some situations don’t require canceling the treatment—but they do require documentation.
Examples include:
• Declining before and after photos
• Refusing topical numbing
• Requesting minor adjustments outside your typical protocol
In these cases, a signed consent waiver is essential.
Why this matters:�Verbal acknowledgment is not protection.�Documentation is.
A structured waiver reinforces that the patient understands the deviation and accepts responsibility for the outcome. It also protects your team if expectations are not met.
