We are excited to welcome Ms. Cowan as Kellybrook’s new assistant principal! Join us in giving her a warm Cougar welcome. Ms. Cowan will start at Kellybrook on July 1st! 💙🐾

At its regular meeting on Tuesday evening, April 21, 2026, the Liberty Public Schools Board of Education approved the appointment of Ms. Carissa Cowan as assistant principal at Kellybrook Elementary.

Ms. Cowan has been a member of the LPS team since 2024 and currently serves as a fifth-grade teacher at Alexander Doniphan Elementary. She has been an educator since 2007, primarily in the state of Colorado. She also spent four years teaching in the Northland with the Smithville School District, where she served as a fourth-grade teacher and virtual instructor from 2019 to 2023.

“Ms. Cowan will bring a deep commitment to instructional excellence and a passion for student learning to her role as assistant principal at Kellybrook Elementary,” said LPS Assistant Superintendent for Innovation and Learning Dr. Julie Moore. “Her ability to elevate classroom practice, support teachers, and keep students at the center of every decision will make a lasting impact on the entire school community.”

Ms. Cowan earned her bachelor’s degree from John Brown University and her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Northwest Missouri State University.

Ms. Cowan will begin her new role on July 1, 2026.
