Abigail, For Now
By Jackie Martin
Auditions November 15th and 16th
Performances February 15th - 18th at 7:30 p.m.
Her name is Abigail. But only while she's here.
Teenaged Abigail is found by her parents in the middle of the woods, frantically trying to leave Earth to go back home where she claims she belongs. It's enough to convince them that her recent erratic behavior comes down to more than just puberty, and they check her into a psychiatric hospital for adolescents. Abigail, angry and afraid that she'll never go home, reluctantly begins to connect with her fellow residents. While her parents and doctors struggle to understand her, Abigail learns more about being human than she ever could have done by simply studying them from afar.
STA Reader’s Theatre Series: Decision Height
by Meredith Dayna Levy
Auditions February 27th
Performance March 3rd (time TBA)
Virginia Hascall has left her home and fiancee to become a Women Airforce Service Pilot, and do her part to help defeat the Axis powers in the Second World War. Through triumph and tragedy, she and her sisters in flight suits learn as much about themselves as they do about airplanes. As the war rages over there, the women form a sisterhood that cannot be broken, and Virginia must make a decision that will change her life forever. Decision Height offers a look into an underrecognized subset of American heros and revises history into herstory.

We are so excited to share our Reader's Theatre performance of The Back Pocket Play by Sonia Goldberg with you all this Friday, March 4th at 6:30p.m. The show runs about an hour and we would love to facilitate a discussion after the performance. Admission is FREE!
Below is a statement from the playwright:
THE BACK POCKET PLAY served as the capstone production for my Honors Thesis at Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. This piece was presented as a part of Butler University’s Founder’s Week Celebration, honoring the school’s historical commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and equality.
I am a biracial woman who grew up in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Chicago, West Rogers Park. Moving to central Indiana for university was a culture shock. I found that my peers are often hesitant to have a conversation about race. Butler University is composed of intelligent, caring, community oriented individuals. Why, then, is “Black Lives Matter” a controversial phrase? The idea for my thesis came from the need to further humanize Black Americans and show White people that they have a stake in the ongoing conversation of racial inequality. I want the energy Whites use to ignore issues of race to be re-channeled into honest conversation and awareness.
What is white privilege? What is institutionalized racism? How are these concepts linked, and why? How can the cycle of oppression be ended? Through the creation of this play, I explore these questions to involve audiences with new insights beyond the dominant culture. - Sonia Goldberg
