Central High is a neighborhood high school in the Kansas City Public Schools. The school was moved in 1915 to Linwood and Indiana.

The first Central High opened in 1867 on the lower floor of the Starke Building at 11th and Locust. In the early 1990s, a new Central High was built, with a large fieldhouse, Olympic-size swimming pool and a Greek theater. The new school initially offered a magnet curriculum with two tracks: classical Greek studies or computers. Notable Central alumni include actor William Powell, baseball manager Casey Stengel and Olympic sprinter Muna Lee.

Today, Cherysh will compete in the preliminary rounds of the 100m and 200m events at the State Championships. 💙🦅

Now it’s time to line it up, leave it all on the track, and show what Blue Eagle pride is about. 😤

And just like that… Central’s Track Team is STATE BOUND! 🔥🏃🏾🏃🏾‍♀️

A huge congratulations to our two state qualifiers, Cherysh Barr and Markquell Douglas, who will proudly represent Central in Jefferson City!

At sectionals yesterday, they delivered outstanding performances:

🏅 Cherysh Barr — 1st Place in the 100m (12.4) and 1st Place in the 200m (25.3)

🏅 Markquell Douglas — 2nd Place in the Mile (4:39) and 4th Place in the 800m (2:02)

We are incredibly proud of these two athletes and the entire CHS Track Team for an amazing season so far. Stay tuned as we continue to support them on their journey to state!
