☕🐻 We have a really exciting update this school year for our high school's Golden Bear Cafe! We'll be sharing more information in the coming weeks, but for now just a little teaser - Golden Bear Cafe students visited Broadway Roasting where they were able to sample coffee blends and choose their favorite.

The group learned all about the coffee bean growing and roasting process.

We can't wait to reveal the updates to the Golden Bear Cafe - stay tuned!

Toddler Tuesday this week was "What's in a Name?" Families participated in story time and then did hands-on activities focused on name and letter recognition. And they had the opportunity to sign up for a personalized wooden name puzzle.

This is such a great activity because young children learning the letters in their name is an important part of early literacy!

And did you know that our Turner Early Childhood program offers this all for FREE?! That's right - any Turner family with a child 4 years old and younger can participate in our early childhood programming, including the weekly Toddler Tuesdays.

Congratulations to Drew Garner, who was named a Coach with Character by Blue KC! This program highlights "high school coaches who, through their leadership on and off the field, are helping to grow amateur sports in the Kansas City area, and making our community a better place to live, work and play."

He was honored during a Royals game where he got to participate in a pre-game batting practice.

Garner coaches golf at THS and was nominated by David Hagan, who shared the following:

Garner actively works to make golf accessible by securing donated clubs, bags, and gear, so financial constraints never prevent a student from playing. He emphasizes core values and resilience over scores, encouraging players to focus on getting better "one shot at a time" and meeting each student where they are. Garner uses the hours spent walking the course to mentor players on academics, family, and future plans, anchoring his leadership in a personal motto to "Live life with PASSION".

💙 Starting school at the Turner Sixth Grade Academy can be intimidating for some students since all four elementary schools are coming together, which means not only are students in a new building but they are also with new classmates and new teachers.

So, to help students adjust, at the beginning of the year, TSGA staff plan a team-building day. This day consists of students getting to know their teachers and classmates through planned activities and games.

They also have an opportunity to hear about school expectations and procedures from their teachers and principal Ms. Linville.

It's a great way to start off the school year!

🐻🚌 The first summer of Hungry Like A Bear was one we won't forget! Thank you to our staff and community for enthusiastically embracing this project and initiative we took on in partnership with our food service partner, OPAA!

We wanted to share a recap and highlight the success of the June meal program along with all the groups who worked last school year to make this happen.

In this video, you'll hear from Dr. Jason Dandoy, Superintendent of Schools, and Diana Dominguez, TMS Kitchen Manager who oversaw the summer food bus program along with Tiffanie Cheatom.

💛 This June, we served over 2,500 meals out of the bus! We can't wait to expand the summer meal program in 2027 to increase the reach and resources provided to our families.

Thank you to our food services and facilities staff along with our building trades, auto tech, and culinary students for making this project happen.
