I'm sorry to report the death of David Fiebig, class of '59, widower of Janet Trott Fiebig, '63. He was such a nice guy, and will be missed by all who knew him.

Paseo Academy was one of four Kansas City Public Schools to receive a grant from Verizon’s Innovative Learning Schools program. Every student at the four schools receives an Apple iPad and 30 gigabytes of data per month from Verizon. Congratulations, Pirates!!!

The Paseo Alliance, working with the Art Club, their teacher and the principal, has furnished a banner for the school bodega. On the banner is the Remember Who You Are motto of the original school, and it is hoped that the Paseo Academy students will learn this motto as we did long ago, and that it will mean something to them as it did to us. Kansas City Public Schools' bodega helping fund student activities Students at Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts are getting hands-on experience with the launch of the school’s first-ever bodega.

Any time you feel like helping the students at The Paseo Academy, they can always use donations of packaged food or drink for their store. Instead of having vending machines that the students get no residual benefit from, when items are purchased in the store, the money stays in the school for special rewards earned, like a pizza party or a special treat. There is a lot of positive incentive and reward in this program.

We are excited to announce Dr. Keyona Powell will be our new principal! Dr. Powell, previously Dean of Students at Northeast High School, stepped in this spring as Paseo’s interim principal. She believes students thrive in a vibrant, healthy, resilient and rigorous learning environment.

Paseo Academy is now accepting school supply donations. The drop off times are 7:00-3:00, M-F. These supplies are needed:
Book bags, spiral notebooks or composition books, pens, pencils, highlighters, colored pencils, pocket folders, tissue, 3 ring binders (2 inch), and bottled water.
The school is also seeking donations of store-bought, individually wrapped items that can be used to fill the school store, such as:
Chips, cupcakes, cookies, juice boxes, candy, gum, bottled water, and bottled or canned drinks.
Monetary donations may be made directly to the school. Make them to Paseo Academy and send to Nancy Griddine Smith, 4747 Flora, Kansas City, MO 64110.
