On Monday, HMC-1 staff came together for an unforgettable Convocation as we celebrated the people who make the difference for our students every day! 🖤💛

From an EPIC Lip-Sync Battle 🎤 to some seriously competitive Teacher Olympic Relays 🏅, our staff brought the energy, the teamwork, and plenty of school spirit!

We were also inspired by Missouri Teacher of the Year and Ruskin High School social studies teacher Kim Sixta, who reminded us why our work matters and the incredible impact educators have on students and communities.

We also took time to look ahead and learn more about HMC-1’s goals and priorities for the 2026-2027 school year as we prepare for another year of learning, growth, and opportunity for every student.

Most importantly, Convocation was a chance to celebrate YOU. Our teachers. Our support staff. Our leaders. Our nutrition teams. Our custodians. Our office teams. Our counselors. Our coaches. Every person who shows up each day ready to make a difference.

🚗💬 We’re On the Move with Dr. Carp!

We’re kicking off a NEW HMC-1 engagement series designed to bring our Superintendent, Dr. Dennis Carpenter, into conversations with the people who know and love HMC-1 best.

For our first stop, Dr. Carp sat down with a group of retired HMC-1 teachers at The Mill Café to talk about what’s ahead for the 2026-2027 school year and the exciting work happening across our district.

The conversation covered Every Child a Reader, our districtwide literacy initiative focused on helping every child become a proficient reader; exciting Real-World Learning opportunities; our partnership with Metropolitan Community College (MCC) to provide a new free college opportunity for HMC-1 graduates; the Para Academy; and so much more!

These educators spent their careers investing in HMC-1 students, and their insight, passion, and commitment to our community continue to make a difference. We’re grateful they took the time to join Dr. Carp for this special conversation!
