An action plan is a guiding force in the Practice-Based Coaching process. This example on positive peer interactions shows an action plan with the steps covering the entire process leading up to implementation. For example, the first step is “brainstorming strategies for peer interactions” – you can start with brainstorming and trying out new strategies before locking into specific strategies.

A coach and teacher can work together to brainstorm strategies to support peer interactions in this classroom. Then, the 2nd action step is “try 2-3 of these strategies” – see that it says “try” – it’s a first step to testing out the strategies and seeing if adjustments are needed. The 3rd step is to “refine a plan” for encouraging peer interactions, and then implement the plan for 3 weeks.

You will know this goal is met when we use those 3 strategies and their related resources and materials during focused observations over 3-4 weeks of focused observations.
