The Critical Materials Crossroads Engine team, led by UMKC, has been named a winner of the National Science Foundation Regional Innovation Engines award. This $160 million award is the largest research grant awarded to UMKC, the UM System and the state of Missouri.
Critical minerals like nickel, cobalt and magnesium power the technologies we rely on every day, from smartphones and microchips to electric vehicles and energy systems. Now, as Kansas City’s Carnegie R1 university, UMKC will lead a national hub focused on strengthening America’s supply chains, national security and global competitiveness through materials innovation.
