Recent KCPSEF Educator Grant winner Shannon Sharp is a 5th grade teacher at James Elementary, but how much do you know about the school?

For over 100 years, James Elementary has been shining bright in Kansas City’s Historic Northeast, and the learning just keeps getting better!

With a welcoming, inclusive culture and a big focus on curiosity, James students get hands-on science lab time every week from K–6. That means experiments, discovery, and plenty of “whoa!” moments.

Rooted in community and powered by curiosity, James Elementary is building the future one young scientist at a time.

We had so much fun celebrating with families, students, and staff before break at our winter family night! Have a great winter break and we will see students again on January 6th!

Join us for our Winter Potluck Celebration today, Friday, December 12th from 4:30–6:00 pm at James Elementary!
Bring a dish to share—homemade or store-bought—and help us build community through food, laughter, and togetherness. Everyone is welcome, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Our 5th graders had an unforgettable day at Kauffman Stadium thanks to our partnership with the Royals' Literacy League. From touring the ballpark to meeting World Series champion Salvador Perez, it was a field trip full of inspiration, learning, and big-league memories.
A huge thank-you to the Royals organization, the Literacy League team, parent volunteers, and everyone who helped make this experience possible for our students!
