What a pleasure attending the 2021 KCPS Education Foundation State of Schools Leadership Breakfast!

Good Morning Kansas City!

I have an unbelievable sense of gratitude today. I remember the precise moment I decided to run for the school board. I was filled with hope, optimism, and a sincere belief that I would be able to make valuable contributions to KCPS. Although brief, the campaign season was grueling and if I'm being honest, disheartening at times. I am thankful that I continued to express my passion because now I know, Kansas City voters heard me!

I would like to thank the ‘band of moms’, friends, and family who supported me every step of the way. You knocked doors, you made phone calls, you made meals, you provided child care, you came to my defense, offered words of encouragement and I would not have been able to do this without you.

Also, thank you to KC BizPac, Our Revolution Kansas City, Former Mayor Sly James, and BLAQUE KC for their courageous public endorsements.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone who had the confidence to cast their ballot for me. I enthusiastically accept the 5th sub-district seat and I look forward to working with Dr. Bedell and other school board members as we continue the vitally important work of making KCPS a world-class school district.

Election Day is tomorrow!
“Just one more sleep” as my kids would say.

The old guard is a bit a shaken that a regular everyday mom would show up as boldly as I have. Narratives have been created out of fear and I get it; power, ego, institutionalism, respectibility politics, etc.

But to all of that I insert an even bolder eye roll and encourage you all to head to the polls. One thing we know about the old guard is that we can out-work him. Our students, teachers, families, and community need leadership that’s ready for tough conversations and bold vision. Dr. Bedell is a phenomenal superintendent that has certainly provided us the stability we needed, he has followed through, and I’m very proud of all he has done- but we can’t stop there. We can’t stop at “slow and steady”. Dr. Bedell needs a strong board behind him and by strong I don’t mean complacent. Somehow strong has become synonymous with quiet and out of the news cycle.

With that, I have to name just like a current board member stated “change is NOT a code word for destruction”. I LOVE KCPS, I value and honor the hard work of our teachers and staff, I want to see students return to the district.

AND I want better because kids deserve it. I’m not the savior by any means but KCPS needs leadership with TRUE investment.

April 6th vote for family voice and a focus on student achievement for ALL students.
