The Rotary Club of Cabarrus is excited to share that Paint the Playground is BACK and rescheduled for THIS Saturday, October 24! 💙💚

We can't wait to bring our community together to make our playground and outdoor classroom an even brighter place for our Eagles!
🎨 A Few Friendly Reminders!
📅 Saturday, October 24
🕗 8:00–11:00 AM: Chalking & Tracing
🖌️ 11:00 AM–3:00 PM: Painting
📍 Location: North Kannapolis Elementary — enter through the upper parking lot near the playground.
👥 Age Requirement: Volunteers must be 15 years or older to attend & participate.
You're welcome to join us for either portion or both! All supplies, paint, and instructions will be provided. No artistic experience needed!

Kindness Spirit Week: October 19–23
Next week, NKE will celebrate Kindness Spirit Week! Our goal is to remind students that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a BIG difference!

Here's what each day represents:
Monday, Oct. 19 – Color Our World with Kindness!
Wear bright colors, tie-dye, or rainbow clothing! We'll explore how kindness can brighten someone's day and inspire others to spread kindness.
Tuesday, Oct. 20 – Small Acts, BIG Hearts!
Wear hearts or an animal-inspired outfit! Inspired by our school-wide reading of Saving Winslow, we'll explore empathy, compassion, and caring for others.
Wednesday, Oct. 21 – Unity Day: Wear Orange!
Wear ORANGE to stand together against bullying and celebrate kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. We'll focus on how our differences make us unique and how we can work together to create a positive, welcoming environment for all.
Thursday, Oct. 22 – Be a HERO, Be an Upstander!
Wear a superhero shirt, cape, or hero-inspired outfit! Students will explore how everyday acts of courage and kindness can help us stand up for others.
Friday, Oct. 23 – Turn It Around with Kindness!
Wear your shirt or hat backwards! We'll learn how to turn unkind moments into opportunities to take responsibility, make things right, and choose kindness.

Our School-Wide Unity Tree Project
As part of our celebration, NKE is creating a special Unity Tree that will remain on display throughout the school year!
Students have already received a leaf to decorate at home with their families. Each leaf should represent what makes that student unique through drawings, colors, words, pictures, interests, strengths, or positive character traits.
Just as every leaf on a tree is different, every student brings something special to our school community. Together, our leaves will create one beautiful tree representing unity, diversity, and belonging.

Please return all completed leaves by Tuesday, October 20!

Lauren Dobbin, North Kannapolis Elementary School

Ms. Dobbin is an exceptional leader whose greatest strength lies in how deeply she cares for people. She guides her school with honesty, empathy, and a clear vision for growth, ensuring that families, staff, community members, and students always feel included and supported.

Even when facing challenges, her optimistic outlook keeps her school family focused on a bright future. Thank you, Ms. Dobbin, for your heart, your leadership, and your unwavering dedication to North Kannapolis Elementary!

Our third EXCELLENT EAGLE post this week because these eagles know how to REPRESENT!

Coming up first is Luna from Ms. Auzenne's 1st grade class. Luna is a fantastic helper and a kind leader in our classroom. She makes the classroom a warm and welcoming place with her constant smile, willingness to help, and caring nature. Whether she is assisting a classmate or offering a comforting hug to a friend in need, Luna consistently leads through kindness.

Next is Valentin from Ms. Phillips' 2nd grade class. At the book fair, Valentin bought a bookmark and when he grabbed one he accidently grabbed two. He didn't realize it until the end of the day and instead of just taking it, Valentin asked if he could take it back to Ms. Wolfe. Valentin, we are very proud of your honesty!

Last but not least is Stevie from Mrs. Rodgers' kindergarten class. Stevie shows compassion with every student she encounters in and outside the classroom. She helps and shows students the responsible and respectful behavior expected in our school community. Stevie goes above all expectations to show kindness to all her friends by quickly helping in any way possible and always modeling safe behaviors!

We have had an OVERFLOW of Excellent Eagles lately, so this calls for an extra spotlight this week.

First up, is Carter from Mr. Vadney's 5th grade class. He was nominated by Ms. Daubenmire. Carter demonstrated the NKE core value of compassion when he noticed a 2nd grade student struggling to pull a heavy cooler full of ice up the ramp. Instead of watching the student struggle, he asked if they needed help. The student and Carter also collaborated to finish the task at hand: pulling the cooler to the outdoor classroom. Thanks Carter for showing younger students the power of compassion and collaboration!

Next, we have Edwin from Mrs. Deese's 5th grade class, also nominated by Ms. Daubenmire. Lastly, we have Erick from Mrs. Dwire's 3rd grade class. Erick exemplifies our school’s PBIS expectations and core values through his strong commitment to collaboration and perseverance. He serves as an outstanding role model during CKLA and math lessons, regularly supporting his classmates during center work and consistently demonstrating respect in all school settings. I am extremely proud of Erick’s dedication, leadership, and positive impact on our classroom community. Congratulations, Erick!
