Sergeant Brown Kankakee H.S JROTC I don’t teach the traditional way—because many students don’t learn that way. I use a hands-on approach built on structure, accountability, and care.

I meet them where they are, earn their trust, and push them to grow into confident, disciplined leaders.

This weekend, our Kay Battalion cadets proudly participated in Carry The Load’s National Day of Service and Remembrance at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

As we marked the 25th anniversary of September 11, our cadets helped care for the sacred grounds where our nation’s heroes rest. The day became especially meaningful when one cadet located the gravesite and headstone of his grandfather—a powerful personal connection between family, service, sacrifice, and remembrance.

This experience reminded our cadets that service is more than an activity—it is a responsibility. We honor those who came before us not only through our words, but through our actions.

Our cadets represented Kankakee High School and the KAY Battalion with pride, respect, and selfless service. We are incredibly proud of them.

Another strong week for the Kay Battalion !

This week, our cadets had the opportunity to visit Olivet Nazarene University, where they were exposed to college life, leadership opportunities, and possibilities beyond high school.

We continued building discipline and teamwork during Fitness Friday, pushing our cadets to challenge themselves physically and mentally.

Today, Cadet Damarea Williams helped us pause and reflect by reading our September 11th Memoriam. Her reading reminded us of the lives lost, the courage displayed, and the importance of service, sacrifice, and remembering those who answered the call on one of our nation’s most difficult days.

Tomorrow, our cadets will carry that spirit of service forward as we travel to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery to participate in the 9/11 National Day of Service.

College readiness. Fitness. Leadership. Remembrance. Service.

Every experience is another opportunity for our cadets to grow into stronger leaders and better citizens.

Keep showing up. Keep pushing forward. Keep representing the KAY Battalion with pride.

KAY Battalion — developing leaders, serving the community, and preparing for the future.

Another strong day of **hands-on leadership development in the Kay Battalion!** 🇺🇸🎖️

Today, our cadets took part in a **Uniform Wear, Appearance & Maintenance Leadership Lab**, learning an important lesson that goes beyond simply putting on the uniform. Cadets practiced **proper ironing, steaming, wrinkle removal, uniform preparation, and storage** while learning how attention to detail reflects discipline, pride, and personal responsibility.

The goal was simple: **Wear it right. Maintain it right. Lead by example.**

These are practical skills our cadets can use for life—taking care of their equipment, presenting themselves professionally, and understanding that leadership often begins with the small things others may overlook.

We are continuing to build a program where cadets don't just hear about standards—they **practice them, teach them, and live them.**

**Discipline. Accountability. Pride. Leadership.**
That’s the KAY Battalion standard. 💪🏽
