The city of Kankakee is contained within Kankakee County and is located 60 miles south of Chicago off Interstate 57. Kankakee School District, with an enrollment of approximately 5,500 students, prekindergarten through twelfth grade, serves all of the City of Kankakee, the Village of Aroma Park, and rural areas east and south of the city, for a total of 48 square miles. Local residents continue to

volunteer countless hours of their time and contribute significant sums of money to support such social service agencies as Catholic Charities, Hospice, and the Community Resource Center. Such cultural institutions as the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra, Kankakee Valley Theatre, and the Kankakee County Historical Society ensure the community remains a vibrant place to live, work, and raise a family. Kankakee School District offers many unique opportunities for students to learn. The district initiated a magnet program in 1979 which features either a subject- matter focus or a specific instructional style. Five magnet programs are offered and include computer education, exposure to the arts, mathematics education, Montessori-based education, and science and technology. The Kankakee High School offers a Business Partnership Academy developed in cooperation with the Private Industry Council focusing on workforce preparation in the field of business. In 2000, a Health Partnership Academy was started with Riverside Medical Center and Provena St. Mary’s Hospital preparing students for a career in health occupation fields. (Performance Optimizing Program) program offers an accelerated/gifted program for gifted learners.

We are proud to recognize Lincoln Cultural Center, Kankakee Junior High School, King Middle School, Mark Twain Elementary, and Steuben Elementary for reaching 100% medically compliant!

Thank you to our families for making sure students have the required physicals and immunizations to start the school year ready to learn.

If your child still needs to submit required physical or immunization records, please do so right away. If you need an appointment, the Kankakee School-Based Health Clinics are available to help. Call 815-802-5730 to schedule an appointment.

We are incredibly grateful to Nucor Steel Kankakee Inc for hearing our call to action and helping us build a stronger connection between our schools and our local business community.

We shared our vision of having local businesses adopt a school and provide consistent, meaningful support to students and staff in ways that go beyond what we can accomplish as a district alone. Nucor Steel took that vision seriously, thoughtfully developed a team, and stepped forward to help make it happen.

Nucor Steel will be partnering with Riverside Healthcare to adopt Kennedy Middle School. Together, they will help create a model for what a strong school-business partnership can look like and strategically develop an approach that can help other local businesses feel equipped and empowered to adopt schools across KSD.

Our goal is to have one to two local businesses adopt each school, creating lasting partnerships that provide consistent support, resources, encouragement, and opportunities for our students and staff.

This is what community partnership looks like. We are grateful to Nucor Steel and Riverside Healthcare for investing in our schools and believing in the power of working together.

Before the school year began, our teachers and support staff came together for the Student Engagement Conference!

Staff had the opportunity to connect with community organizations that are here to support our schools, participate in professional development sessions, and take part in sessions focused on self-care and wellness.

It was a meaningful way to prepare, connect, and recharge before welcoming students back for a new school year.

We are grateful for the dedication of our staff and the many community partners who help support them.

REMINDER: EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAYS START IN SEPTEMBER!

Beginning in September, KSD111 will begin again Early Release Wednesdays to provide dedicated time for our teachers and staff to collaborate, plan, and continue growing together for the benefit of our students.

Our first Early Release Wednesday is Wednesday, September 2.

Dismissal Times:
Kindergarten–6th Grade: 2:30 PM
7th–12th Grade & LCC: 1:30 PM

Early Release Wednesday does not apply for Early Childhood.

Families, please plan accordingly and mark these dates on your calendar. We appreciate your partnership as we continue to create the best possible learning experiences for our students. Thank you!

Last week, King Middle School celebrated the first week of school with a parade!

It was a wonderful way to bring our students, staff and community together as we kicked off the new school year. Thank you to everyone who came out to cheer on our students and show your support for King Middle School!

Before the school year began, our teachers were hard at work preparing their classrooms and creating welcoming spaces for our students.

From organizing materials to putting the finishing touches on their classrooms, our teachers put in the time and care to make sure their students were ready for a great year of learning.

We’re grateful for the dedication our teachers show both before the first bell and every day after. Thank you for helping make Kankakee School District 111 a place where Hope Starts Here!
