Backpacks, Blessings & Gratitude! 🙏

A huge mahalo to Bri Collo and the UNTO ONE Foundation, Target, and all our generous donors for providing school supplies for every St. Anthony student! ❤️

Our student body was privileged to thank Bri in person at our morning assembly, presenting her with handmade cards and beautiful leis of gratitude. 🌺💙

We also began our school year with a special Blessing of the Backpacks by Fr. Larry and Fr. Taylor, sending our students off with grateful hearts and God’s blessing for a wonderful year ahead!

🙏 A Prayer for 9/11

Heavenly Father,
We remember with heavy hearts all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Bring comfort to their families and to all who continue to grieve.

We give thanks for those who courageously served and sacrificed to help others. Bless our first responders, military members, and all who work each day to protect and serve our communities.

Help us to be instruments of Your peace. May we choose kindness over division, love over fear, and compassion over anger. Guide us to care for one another and to make Your goodness known in all that we do.

May we never forget. May we always remember. May we continue to pray for peace.

Thursday, our Maui Catholic Schools came together for the Mass of the Holy Spirit—the first time we have gathered in this way since before COVID. What a blessing it was to stand together again as one Catholic school ʻohana, united in faith, mission, and hope for the future.

We thank Fr. William Kunisch, Pastor of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kihei & Vicar Forane for Maui County, for presiding over our celebration and for serving as our keynote speaker with his inspiring message, “Growing Through Change.” We are also grateful to Fr. Linus Sarte, Fr. EfrenTomas, and Fr. Napoleon Andres for concelebrating the Mass. Our sincere thanks as well to Deacon Chris Ribucan for serving at the altar and sharing in this special celebration with our Maui Catholic Schools ʻohana.

As we continue celebrating the Bicentennial of the Catholic Faith in Hawaiʻi, we are reminded that this milestone is not only about looking back at the legacy entrusted to us. It is also about asking what we are called to do now.

Maui Catholic Schools are part of the change needed for the next chapter.

The change that matters.
The change that strengthens faith.
The change that forms hearts and minds.
The change that serves our communities.
The change that makes a difference.

Catholic education in Hawaiʻi has carried forward a mission rooted in faith, service, sacrifice, and love. Now it is our turn to continue that legacy—to respond to the needs of this generation and prepare our young people to become the faith-filled leaders, servants, and difference-makers who will shape the next chapter.

The next chapter is not simply something we will read. Together, we are writing it.

May the Holy Spirit continue to guide our schools, inspire our educators, strengthen our families, and lead all of us forward in faith.

It’s been an exciting first week of school, and our Kindergarteners are off to a fantastic start! 🎉✏️

This week, our young learners learned directed drawing, carefully listening and following step-by-step directions using straight and curved lines. As they added each new detail, the excitement grew as they used their observation skills to guess what their picture was becoming. The big reveal at the end? An alligator! 🐊

Along the way, they learned some wonderful new vocabulary: detail, straight, curve, and perspective.

This fun activity did so much more than create an alligator! Our Kindergarteners strengthened their listening skills, fine motor development, observation skills, vocabulary, and confidence as young artists. We are so proud of how they have started the school year and can’t wait to watch them continue to grow and learn! 💙💛

Ho‘omaika‘i to the St. Joseph School students who successfully completed the inaugural Blue ‘Oama Project, a youth media and cultural storytelling initiative at Nā Leo TV.

Developed and led by Mariah Gray, the six-week program guided student creators through the storytelling process as they explored topics meaningful to them and their communities. From hula and Merrie Monarch, to connecting with land and sea through hunting and fishing, to the lessons learned through surfing, faith, and growing up in Hawai‘i – each student courageously shared a piece of who they are through film.

These projects are more than videos. They are time capsules of identity, culture, family, and community.

Tonight, students premiered their work during a special ‘ohana showcase attended by family, friends, and the St. Joseph School community.

Mahalo to St. Joseph School for partnering with us, especially Ms. Chrislyn Villena for championing this project within the school community, to Mariah for her creativity, vision, and leadership, and to the students and their ‘ohana for trusting us with their stories. We’re excited to continue growing the Blue ‘Oama Project and bringing this opportunity to more schools and youth across Hawai‘i Island.

Full episodes will air on Nā Leo TV beginning in June. We can’t wait to share these powerful stories with our community.

Golden Pine”apple” Awardees Announced🍍

Congratulations Annicelia Agbayani of Our Lady of Good Counsel School and Dr. Glenn Medeiros of St. Louis School!

Both have been named this year’s recipients of the Hawaii Catholic Schools Golden Pine”apple” Award for the Teacher and Administrator of the Year. Annicelia Agbayani is the awardee for Teacher of the Year while Dr. Glenn Medeiros is this year’s Administrator of the Year. Both awards recognize excellence in outstanding teachers/specialists and administrators within the Catholic Schools in the State of Hawaii. The Golden Pine”apple” winner was announced earlier this month at the annual Hawaii Catholic Schools Recognition Luncheon sponsored by Lands’ End Outfitters, Altres, Renaissance, and SubSpark. Both winners received $1,000 total from HCS, Chaminade University and John C. and Mary Lou Brogan and $1,500 for their respective schools to be used for Staff Development from Augustine Educational Foundation.
