This spring semester, I had the pleasure of teaching a Ramen, Chashu Pork, and Marinated Egg class at Flathead Valley Community College.

Thank you so much for your incredible interest! So many people joined the waitlist that I was able to offer a total of three classes.

We had a wonderful time cooking together, and everyone made a delicious bowl of ramen from scratch. Thank you to everyone who participated and made these classes so enjoyable!

Throughout the week, students learned the fundamentals of Japanese by practicing hiragana, building their vocabulary, learning numbers, and gaining the confidence to introduce themselves in Japanese.

They also experienced Japanese culture by creating beautiful origami projects and designing their own creative character bento (chara-ben) lunches.

These hands-on activities encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork while giving students a meaningful introduction to Japanese traditions.

It was inspiring to see their curiosity, focus, and enthusiasm as they challenged themselves to learn something new each day.

🌸 Mizuhiki Cord Knotting Class at Flathead Valley Community College(Spring Semester)🌸

We made traditional Japanese mizuhiki knots together.

It’s amazing how delicately twisting thin cords by hand can create such beautiful knots.

Some of you started with a “this looks tricky…” expression, but by the time your knot was finished, everyone was smiling ✨

Mizuhiki carries meanings like “tying connections” and “binding bonds together.”

Carefully knotting each cord felt almost like a small meditation — a quiet moment to settle the mind.

Thank you so much to everyone for attending the class!

🍣 Sushi Roll & Miso Soup Class — Spring 2026
There’s something truly special about learning through food.

This spring, we gathered at Flathead Valley Community College to roll sushi together — and what unfolded was so much more than a cooking class. There were stories shared across the table, laughter over first attempts, and that incredible moment when everyone held up their finished rolls with the biggest smiles.

Thank you to every single person who joined and brought such warm, joyful energy to the room. Watching everyone create, connect, and enjoy the process together was an absolute joy.
This is exactly why we do what we do. 🌸

巻き寿司を通じて、ただ料理を学ぶだけでなく、笑顔と温かさでつながった素晴らしい時間でした。ご参加いただいた皆さま、本当にありがとうございました。
また次のクラスでお会いしましょう!

A special thank you to — our talented chef and Japanese student — who brought both his culinary expertise and warm heart to make this class truly unforgettable. 🙏✨

Will comes to your home, cooks for you, and serves you a wonderful meal — a truly personal dining experience. If that sounds like something you’d love, check out his page!

Congratulations on completing Japanese Language & Culture Advanced Beginner II!

For our final session, we held a speech contest and made omurice together. Everyone did such a wonderful job cooking—the dishes looked beautiful and tasted delicious!

For dessert, we enjoyed Sakura (cherry blossoms ) tea along with a Japanese cheesecake that one of the students kindly brought. Everyone was so happy and satisfied.

Also the student prepared homemade Gyoza and even cooked them for us—thank you so much, they were absolutely delicious!

In the Japanese Language & Culture classes offered at FVCC, we also spend time cooking and enjoying meals together at the last session. If you’re interested, please join us!

For the final class of the Spring 2026 Japanese Language and Culture Beginner course, students enjoyed new experiences such as folding origami cranes and trying on haori jackets.

Most notably, we made SUKIYAKI together—something I introduced to them for the first tim, and made ONIGIRI—and everyone enjoyed it very much. It was a truly fun and memorable time.

Thank you for taking this course before your trip to Japan. Using the Japanese you’ve learned here will make your trip so much more enjoyable.
