Brave Nation,

It is with heavy emotions that I tell you that I was offered and accepted the Assistant Principal/ Athletic Director position at Kalispell Middle School and will resign as Head Football Coach at Flathead High School. It was never my intention to leave a program I have been a part of for the past 7 years after 1 season at the helm. I had a 5-10 year vision and plan when I took this job but I know this vision will still come to fruition because it has nothing to do with me and everything to do with the young men in this program. The program is in a great place. Do not waver, do not flinch. The foundation, coaching staff and support systems are in place, believe me, the future is bright for Flathead High Football.

I had two goals when I started my career, I wanted to be a head football coach and I wanted to become an administrator. In my mind, I thought those two opportunities would come years, even decades, apart. Never in a million years did I think I would have the chance to achieve both of these so close together. I believe this is a once in a career opportunity and this is what is best for my wife and I and our future family.

The hardest part of this decision is walking away from an outstanding group of young men, and coaches who have given me everything I have asked of them day in and day out in the community, weightroom, classroom and on the field. I know the character of these young men, and I know the people who raised them which is why I know this program will thrive moving forward.

This has been the toughest decision of my life. Football will always be my first love and it is my core belief that this game provides you more life lessons than anything else in the world. This game has shaped me in every aspect of my life as a son, brother, husband, coach and educator. Football has taught me the value of commitment, teamwork, work ethic, mental toughness, discipline and resiliency. It means more to me that our players use these traits to go on to be great men, husbands, fathers and members of their community than any accomplishments they achieve on the football field.

I want to thank each and every one of you players, coaches, parents, administrators, teachers, and community members for your love, belief, loyalty and support. Not only to me, but more importantly, to the program in my time here. Lastly, I want to thank my wife Kirstyn. It’s not easy being a coach's spouse, and she has been my rock and number one supporter throughout our time here. Flathead High is a special place and I will forever be indebted to the Flathead High family. What you have given me in the past 7 years is exponentially more than I could ever give you in return.

“Be at your best when your best is needed!”

Love,
Coach Cummings

Great job Speech and Debate !!

Flathead dominated the national qualifying tournament this weekend, nearly doubling the number of kids on stage of the closest competitor. FHS earned 12 national qualifiers and 18 alternates to the national tournament in Louisville, Kentucky in June.
