The Northwestern Agricultural Research Center (NWARC) is an integral part of the statewide Montana Agricultural Experiment Station agricultural research center system. Scientists and staff at NWARC are actively involved with local agriculture and enjoy interaction with area farmers, ranchers, and agribusiness people. They also work with the MSU Cooperative Extension Service to serve the widely-varied agricultural needs of our immediate area and northwestern Montana.

Now Hiring: Research Associate *Kalispell, MT*

Montana State University’s Northwestern Agricultural Research Center (NWARC) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to support its field crop physiology research program. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to applied agricultural research that directly benefits farmers and agribusinesses in NW Montana. The successful candidate will be involved in hands-on research across a variety of agronomic crops, helping to advance studies related to irrigation, nutrient management, and crop performance. The position combines fieldwork, data collection, and equipment operation with responsibilities in data management and seasonal staff supervision. Ideal candidates will have a strong foundation in agronomy or a related field, enjoy working outdoors, and be eager to collaborate with researchers, producers, and stakeholders to support MSU’s mission of agricultural innovation and outreach.

NWARC is stationed in the community of Creston, near Kalispell, and consists of 200 irrigated and dryland acres and is well-equipped with modern field plot equipment, laboratory equipment, facilities and greenhouse space. The research center is located 10 miles from Flathead Lake, the largest fresh water lake in the western U.S., and 45 miles from Glacier National Park.

Our 2026 Field Day was a huge success! We wanted to take a moment to thank all who came out to our event in Creston on July 9th. We appreciate you supporting Montana agriculture!

The Northwestern Agriculture Research Center is now hiring. Apply your classroom knowledge in the field!

- Seasonal summer/fall positions available 30-40 hours per week.
- Assist with farm operations including: general crop production, research trial establishment, and general grounds keeping.
- Field work includes assisting with the establishment and maintenance of research plots, assist in data collection in agronomic studies, and the operation of small plot farm equipment.
- Laboratory work includes data entry, processing plant and grain samples (e.g. weighing, counting) and lab maintenance.
