WMU Seita Scholars Program

The Seita Scholars Program is a scholarship and campus support program for alumni of the foster care system at Western Michigan University.

For more information: www.wmich.edu/fyit The Seita Scholars Program aims to increase college graduation and career transition for alumni of foster care, while building a community of scholars on the campus of Western Michigan University. The Seita Scholars Program at WMU offers a full tuition scholarship, Campus Coach and DHS Coach support, connections to academic, personal and career oriented resources and services, and opportunities to build life skills, leadership and a positive self-identity through the experience of obtaining a college degree.

Our Seita Scholars team continued our Summer Partner Series today with an informative session from Kimberly Carroll, Associate Director and ADA Coordinator, and Valaree Kyser, Equity Outreach Specialist and Deputy Title IX Coordinator.

It was especially meaningful to welcome Kimberly Ann back, not only as a valued campus partner, but as a former Seita Scholar and WMU alumna. 💛 It’s always inspiring to see our scholars return as leaders and colleagues. We’re grateful to both Kimberly and Valaree for sharing their expertise and helping our team stay informed as we prepare to best support students in the year ahead. Strong partnerships make a difference!

✨ We enjoyed a wonderful evening in Detroit at the Roostertail for the annual Michigan Education Trust Fostering Futures Fundraiser! ✨It was an honor to celebrate RJ, a Seita Scholar, as the featured spotlight student. We also had the chance to connect with amazing people, network, meet Malik Yoba, contribute to a great cause, and so much more.Grateful to be part of a community that believes in fostering success and creating brighter futures. 💙

At our 2025 Seita Scholars Year-End Celebration, we honored the incredible achievements of our students who dared to dream big and followed through with heart and hustle. This year, we celebrated scholars who:
✔️Studied abroad and expanded their worldview
✔️Prepared for graduation with intention and pride (Graduation Preparation Seminars)
✔️Gained wisdom through career mentoring and internships
✔️Served their communities through Seita Service Learning w/Linden Grove Middle School
✔️Were empowered during the Circle of Change Leadership Conference
✔️Supported each other through peer mentoring
✔️Earned admission into competitive academic programs

Tonight, we had the honor of attending the Fostering Futures Scholarship Gala, and what a night it was! We’re filled with gratitude for this incredible event and the inspiring community that surrounds our work. It was such a joy connecting with so many familiar faces and champions of students with experience in foster care.

So much fun, laughter, and love in one room. Thank you to everyone who helps us keep the mission alive.💙💚

🎉🏒 We’re so proud of the WMU Hockey team — the last remaining No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament! TODAY our Broncos will hit the ice at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis to face off against Denver. 🏆
📺 Tune in at 5 p.m. on ESPN2 or ESPN+ and cheer them on!

Our very own Sr. Campus Coach, Peter Thompson, repping his Bronco pride in his WMU hockey jersey today — will be at the watch party cheering tonight!!!💛🤎
