This is a great article from Bridge Michigan about the state of reading education in Michigan.
According to the article, only 39.6 % of Michigan 3rd graders could read proficiently during the 2023-2024 school year.
M-STEP results reveal struggles for Michigan kids who began school in COVID | Bridge Michigan Experts have warned that the pandemic’s effect on learning would last for a long time. Now, Michigan scores show third graders are scoring worse on reading than third graders prior to the pandemic.
