Tufts UEP Commencement Speeches 2023: Chelsea Spaman, MS-Sustainability – Practical Visionaries 06/21/2023

Check out this beautiful commencement speech by our former IES presidential scholar, Chelsea Spaman, who just graduated with a MSS degree in Environmental Policy and Planning at Tufts University. Chelsea took ENVS 2050 with our own Dr. Cybelle Shattuck. In her speech, Chelsea describes how her experience in the class changed her career goals, causing her to major in Environmental and Sustainability Studies. She talks about the Sleeping Bear camping trip as transformative, especially the “tree dance” in which Wil Reding has our students act out the physiological functions of different tree parts.

At WMU, Chelsea served as Director of Sustainability for the Western Student Association. She helped organize the first Student Sustainability Summit as well as a panel discussion on Environmental Justice. It’s great to see our former students continuing to make an impact, carrying their passion for sustainability out into the world.
