Telling Your Story: How to Stand Out in Scholarships, Jobs, and Life

On Saturday, September 26, at the Fall Leadership Seminar, Melinda Dobson, a long-time donor, volunteer, & host family helped our scholars explore how to communicate that story in scholarship applications, CVs, job interviews, and new introductions. Her session encouraged students to recognize what makes their journey unique and express it with clarity and confidence.

Big ambitions become more manageable when you know your next step. 🎯

On Saturday, September 26, one of our volunteers, Mike Shields, Founder & Historical Consultant for Blackberry Windows and married to Jericho's founder, Joanna Shields, led our scholars in a practical conversation about setting clear, achievable goals. Students explored how to break larger ambitions into actionable steps, stay accountable, and build consistency over time.

There’s something special about hearing from someone who once sat where you’re sitting now.

During one of our seminar sessions on Friday, September 25, we welcomed Jericho alumni Amina A., Amina B., and Sifet, who joined our scholars to reflect on university, life after graduation, and the lessons they learned along the way. They shared challenges, advice they wished they had received earlier, and what the Jericho community has meant to them.

The Entrepreneur’s Journey: Building Something Bigger Than Yourself

On Friday, September 25, at the Fall Leadership Seminar, Mistral Founder Mersed Čamdžić shared his journey from building and selling a company to beginning a new chapter in life.

His message invited our scholars to look beyond the next exam or job and consider the direction they want their lives to take, while leaving room for that path to change.

You don’t have to have every detail figured out to begin.

On Friday, September 25, at our Fall Leadership Seminar, Ajla Licina, Founder of Aisthesis, shared the story of two young women who turned an idea into a company and received support from organizations including Google, Microsoft, and Stanford.

Her journey gave our scholars a real example of courage, persistence, and young women building in the tech space.

On Friday, September 25, at our Fall Leadership Seminar, Adela Ramic, founder of Daorsina, led our scholars through an interactive session on Healthy Boundaries and Effective Communication in Professional and Personal Life.

Students explored how to express their needs, respect boundaries, and navigate difficult conversations in their personal and professional lives, including knowing when and how to say “no."

On Saturday, September 26, we had the joy of welcoming Alisa and Melisa, Jericho Foundation’s first scholarship recipients, back to our Fall Leadership Seminar. Alisa, now a dedicated student mentor, joined today’s scholars to share stories, celebrate achievements, and remind us of the powerful legacy and enduring bonds that started with Jericho’s very first scholars.

We are thankful they were part of this gathering and helped connect our Foundation’s beginnings with the students writing its next chapter.

What does it take to turn an idea into an opportunity?

On September 24, Symphony founder & CEO Haris Memić shared what it took to build his entrepreneurial journey: discipline, tough decisions, persistence, and the effort that often goes unseen. His conversation with our Jericho scholars offered an honest look at building something meaningful and taking initiative before opportunities arrive.

Your story is bigger than what fits on a screen. 📱

On September 24, actor and influencer Goran Popovic kicked off the speaker sessions at Jericho Foundation’s Fall Seminar with a conversation about social media, identity, and the pressure to compare. Together, students explored the gap between online appearances and everyday life, and how the content we consume can shape how we see ourselves.

Thank you, Goran, for encouraging our scholars to use social media more intentionally and remember that their worth extends far beyond a curated feed.
