We’ve been busy planning this free event for experienced doulas in Regions 8 and 4. If you are an experienced doula in one of the counties listed, we’d love to see you in September.

Earlier this year, the MDHHS Doula Initiative team asked us to create a mentoring event for doulas in Michigan’s Perinatal Quality Regions 8 and 4. We envisioned a free one-day conference and nurture event, and today that vision comes to life.

Doulas in Regions 8 and 4 are welcome to register for the conference. That includes doulas who live in:

Region 8: Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren Counties.

Region 4: Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Kent, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, and Ottawa Counties.

Doulas who live in other areas of the state can apply for the wait list, which we will open later this summer if spots are still available.

We do expect this conference to fill, so register ASAP if you’d like to join us, doulas. Can’t wait to see you in September! We’re excited about what we’ve put together for you and look forward to spreading the doula love.

Calling NE Michigan! Our summer scholarship trainings are filling up, but there are currently still nine spots open in this DONA International approved birth doula workshop in Alpena. Please help spread the word. It's not often that a doula training is held in that area, much less a full scholarship workshop. 🩵

* People in other areas may be considered, but the training is ideal for those who live within a 60- to 90-minute drive of Alpena.

This Ann Arbor group was originally to be 12 doulas, then for a number of reasons ended up being 8... And as is always the case, it was exactly everyone who was meant to be there. What a wonderful birth doula training in one of our favorite spaces. The doulas learned, laughed, supported each other, and prepared for the journey ahead supporting families. There was so much passion for accepting Michigan Medicaid too, which we love to see! Doulas often wonder after training if they are truly ready to support a family. But I can see it and feel it every time... They are READY! We'll be waiting for the celebration email or text to tell us their first birth went so well. Congratulations, doulas!

UPDATE: This seminar is full and closed, but use the registration link in the comments to join the wait list for June or August. The first summer session filled so fast... We were able to scour the schedule and find dates for one more Lamaze training in time for the Doula RISE reimbursement! We opened this August training to our wait list first, and there are just SEVEN spots left. We may also have one spot in the June 22 + 27-28 training, so please let us know if that's of interest. We are so excited about adding more Lamaze educators to Michigan! Registration link in the comments. 🩷

World Doula Week was the perfect time to welcome these incredible doulas into the field! The doulas at our Kalamazoo training came from around the state to learn, connect and grow. We shared insights, tears, coffee, chocolate, love and warmth. Special thanks to our partners at Cradle Kalamazoo for sponsoring four of these doulas, who will become part of the organization’s important efforts to continue improving outcomes for Black and Brown families. 🤎 What an amazing group of 12 doulas! We have two Medicaid Quick-Start Trainings coming up for Michigan doulas who'd like to become Medicaid enrolled. MDHHS has confirmed that to be eligible for the Doula RISE scholarships, you only need to be Medicaid enrolled at the time you submit your reimbursement request. Those reimbursements can be from BEFORE you were enrolled, all the way back to October 1, 2025. Please check this info if unsure, but either way, it's an amazing time to become Medicaid enrolled. 💜 These Quick-Start Trainings are our way of supporting both the doulas we training and all doulas in the state.
