The Academically Talented Youth Program (ATYP) at Western Michigan University is designed for academically talented middle and high school students. We deliver high school content for students who are ready for the material in middle school in math and language arts.

Don't miss out!

Monday is the regular registration deadline for ATYP Summer Camps! After that there will be an additional $10 late registration fee.

Some of our camps are full and have waitlists, but there is still plenty of room in Poetry, Math Games, Arts for a Brighter Future, Codebreaking, Paper Mache Personas, Scratch, and more!

Camps are $150 per one-week/half-day day camps on the campus of Western Michigan University. You can also bring a lunch and take both a morning and an afternoon camp! Half-off scholarships are available for any student who qualifies for any state or federal financial assistance program. Simply email the office at [email protected] for more information.

Check out ATYP's Paper Mache Personas Summer Camp!

Design and construct a sculpture created from sustainable materials. Take influence from techniques used in puppetry, costume design, and even DIY cosplay art to create a piece you can wear over your head to parties, festivals, and maybe even a school dance. It's all up to you!

This camp takes place June 22-26 from 9 a.m. to noon on the campus of Western Michigan University. Cost is $150, after June 2 there is an additional $10 late registration fee. 1/2 off scholarships are available for any student who qualifies for any federal or state financial assistance program; email the office at [email protected] for details.

We are looking for current or former ATYP participants and current or 24-25 ATYP parents to participate in focus groups for a program evaluation, this week in person and potentially next week online.

Times this week are:

Students - Wednesday (today) - 4 or 7 pm,
Thursday - 4, 6 or 7 pm

Parents - Thursday 4, 6, or 7

All are 45 minutes long in Sangren Hall’s Swain Library. Parking is free.

Next week’s times are TBD based on availability.

Calling All Poets! A great ATYP summer camp experience!

Read and hear poetry from national and local artists! Learn to write poems using practices that rely on pre-existing experiences and artwork and and take part in a group poem. A creative and practical guide through poetry taught by a local poet.

Grades 6-9, $150. June 15-19, 1-4 p.m., WMU's Kalamazoo Campus. Half-off scholarships are available for anyone who qualifies for any federal or state financial assistance. Contact the office at [email protected] for more information.
