When trees or branches need to be removed from campus due to storm damage or other factors, we haul the wood to a lot on east campus. Recently, we had all of that wood chipped on site, creating mulch that will be used in garden beds across campus.

This mulch supply will last our team an estimated two to three years, helping us reduce waste, save money and make the most of our resources. It's just one of the many ways we're working toward a more sustainable campus! 🌱

We are so proud to share that one of our custodians, Teri Wagner, was selected as one of four recipients of the annual Make a Difference Award. The award is one of the highest accolades given to a nonfaculty employee at WMU. Recipients are chosen from the semiannual recipients that are selected in the fall and spring.

Teri received the award today at the Fall Awards Celebration. Congratulations, Teri — we are so thankful to have you our team! 👏🏼

The city of Kalamazoo has announced their 2026 Fall Hydrant Flushing Program schedule, which includes the WMU Campus.

The Parkview Campus area is scheduled to have the hydrants flushed on Thursday, September 17. The Main/East Campus area is scheduled to have the hydrants flushed on Saturday, September 19. Hydrant flushing occurs overnight between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Flushing does not affect the safety of the water supply. However, water may appear cloudy or discolored following the flushing. If this occurs, we recommend running the cold water in your building until the water runs clear again. It is also recommended that light colored laundry be done before the testing or after the water is consistently clear.
