You "asked" about a day in the life of Reading Wave families. Here it is!

1. Play a Move and Play Reading Game *or two*.

2. Read a color coded story featuring the words, letter partners, and word families you've taught so far.

3. Complete a page in the multilevel workbook.

Honestly, the time this takes can range from family to family, kid to kid. Average about 30 minutes for a day like this. If you add a 2nd game or read one of the longer stories, then it'll take a bit more time. Either way, time flies when you're having fun!

Get your fur kids involved!

We ended up creating a variation of the reading game for sight word "with," because, well, we can! Once you get to know the curriculum and our Move and Play method of teaching kids to read, you get inspired to use what you have around the house or classroom.

By including your beloved pets, stuffed animals, or action figures, the kids create even more happy hormones than they do sitting down with a worksheet.

Some things you never forget. Nahea, age 6, found a way to remember that the letter partners "qu" are always together.

When we teach letter partners, we make them relatable and human-like. Usually they're best friends who, together, make a whole new sound like the letter partners "ch".

With vowels, oftentimes one is brave and says his name loudly and proudly while the other one hides behind it silently, such "oa" in the word "boat."

We love it when our students find their own story to help them remember!

Most parents can agree that we're proud of our kids for merely existing. We see their growth through infancy and continue to be amazed into childhood. How about our kids, though? Are they just as proud of themselves? 

Our favorite part about watching our students and our own kids is when they discover they're really good at something. Especially those who are naturally timid, or downright scared to try anything new.

Role playing sparks creativity and is a natural bridge to story telling. Through improvisation and movement, kids will easily learn sight words by creating memories associated with them.

The word "help" from Set 6 E-BOOK is sure to spark silliness, or can even allow our kids to work through pain they may be experiencing and truly ask for help.

So at Reading Wave, we say, "Lights, camera, read!"

An untraditional year like 2020 deserves an untraditional school photo. These kids are still 100% distance learning at home with their Hawaiian language school. Luckily, they still have the bandwidth for Move and Play Reading Games, because...fun!
