Love this quote!
Coming out of high school (like everyone) I wanted to play for a Division 1 College. I got ZERO offers. I had a community college coach tell my dad that I was flat out too small. That they looked for more physical looking players. I heard that from a number of colleges. But you know what? There’s the truth and then there’s what you believe. I chose not to believe any of it. If I did, I would have quit. I eventually walked on to one of the best Division 1 colleges in the country, figured out how to get off the bench, and got drafted in the 9th round by the Texas Rangers. If you want something bad enough, you’ll figure it out regardless. It doesn’t matter what the truth is, it only matters what you believe.

Growing up I was always taught to throw the k**b of the bat to the ball.

Here’s two of the greatest hitters to have ever played the game telling you opposite advice. Bonds telling you to throw the barrel, and Gwynn telling you to throw the k**b.

Which do you think is right or wrong?

For me, there’s really only what works for you and what doesn’t.

I had the original trapeze glove when it came out. I loved it! The pocket was so deep. Just had a different feel when catching the ball. My only issue was as my glove broke in, the middle finger would bend or curve backwards some. I had issues with ground balls in tall grass in the outfield. I always thought if there could be a bar on the top of the glove (like the blue & grey glove) it would be perfect! It amazes me what kids have available to them. Such a cool glove for an outfielder.

Fear of striking out which is “worry”, can lead to an “I can’t” attitude which will ultimately have a paralyzing effect. 

Worry causes your body and muscles to tense up. To a hitter, the ball actually starts to look FASTER and smaller. 

When you feel a certain way, you will act in a manner consistent with that feeling. Meaning,  if you feel fear, you’ll likely produce actions that are in line with being fearful. Poor and weak results.

To reverse this, try acting how you want to feel, even if you don’t feel it. And you will create the feeling consistent with your actions. 

What this means is, even if you don’t “feel” confident - if you “act” confident, you’ll end up creating a confident feeling consistent with your actions. 

A simple way of doing this is to always remind your hitters to put themselves into a strong position regardless of the count. 

When the hitter thinks about getting into a strong position, they’ll make the tweaks on their own without ever thinking about their mechanics.
