The VA is supposed to rate your PTSD based on your worst days, not your average days. Make sure your percentage reflects your true reality. ๐บ๐ธ
HOW THE VA ACTUALLY RATES PTSD
The VA rates PTSD at 0%, 10%, 30%, 50%, 70%, or 100% depending on how severely your symptoms disrupt your work, family, and social life. The most common rating granted is 70%.
Here is a critical truth: the VA often tries to "average out" your symptoms to give you a lower rating. Legally, if you exhibit even a few severe symptomsโlike frequent panic attacks, occupational impairment, or memory lossโyou qualify for the higher rating bracket.
When you go to your C&P exam, stop putting on a brave face. Be completely transparent about your absolute hardest days.
What is the biggest hurdle you've faced trying to get your PTSD rated correctly? Let's take a look at it together. ๐

MYTH: "Filing a VA claim takes away money and resources from combat Veterans who need it more than me."
FACT: VA compensation is not a pie with limited slices. Congress funds VA disability out of a separate budget, and your claim never takes resources away from another brother or sister in arms.
Your sacrifice doesn't diminish anyone else'sโplease stop holding yourself back. ๐บ๐ธ
I hear this from the most humble Veterans I coach: "I don't want to file because a buddy of mine lost a limb, and he needs the money more." Itโs a beautiful sentiment, but itโs completely wrong. The VA budget expands to accommodate every Veteran who qualifies. By stepping aside, you aren't saving money for a combat Vet; you are just denying yourself and your family the safety net you sacrificed your health to earn. We are all part of the same family, and everyone deserves their share of support.
You stood in line to serve. Stand in line to get taken care of. Letโs do this together. ๐

To every brother and sister exhausting themselves trying to sleepโyour severe snoring or gasping could be physically linked to your PTSD. ๐บ๐ธ
Medical evidence proves that chronic stress, hypervigilance, and sleep issues caused by PTSD can directly lead to or worsen sleep apnea. Yet, many Veterans claim sleep apnea on its own and face an automatic denial.
If you already have a rating for PTSD, you don't need to prove your sleep apnea started on active duty. Instead, you can claim it as a secondary condition.
To win, the VA requires a formal sleep study confirming your diagnosis, plus a medical Nexus Letter showing how your mental health condition impacts your airways.
Are you waking up exhausted even after a full night's rest? Letโs talk about linking your sleep issues to your PTSD rating. ๐

Your injuries don't exist in a vacuumโone problem often leads to another. ๐บ๐ธ
Many Veterans miss out on benefits because they don't realize their new health issues are actually tied to their old service injuries. This is called a Secondary Claim, and the key to winning it is the Medical Nexus.
A Nexus Letter is essentially a doctor explaining to the VA how "Condition A" caused "Condition B." Without this clinical bridge, the VA will often view your new symptoms as unrelated to your service.
Whether it's your back hurting because of a limp, or mental health struggles stemming from chronic physical pain, that connection matters. Taking the time to get a high-quality Nexus Letter isn't just paperworkโitโs protecting your health and your future.
Have you noticed new aches or issues popping up because of an old injury? Letโs look at how they might be linked. ๐

A day of remembrance for those who gave their tomorrow for our today. ๐บ๐ธ
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day, a time to adorn the graves of those lost in service. It remains a sacred day to reflect on the courage and selflessness of our fallen service members. We honor their commitment by coming together as a community.

Itโs never too late to advocate for your health. ๐บ๐ธ
Many Veterans believe that if they didn't file the day they processed out, they missed their chance. That couldn't be further from the truth. Whether youโve been out for two years or twenty, you are entitled to compensation for the wear and tear the military put on your body. The process might take more digging for old records, but the support is still there for you.
Your service mattered then, and your health matters now. Let's start the process. ๐

Patience is a requirement for a Board appeal, but knowing the timeline helps you stay in the fight. ๐บ๐ธ
When a local VA decision doesn't go your way, appealing to the Board of Veteransโ Appeals (BVA) is a powerful move. However, it requires a long-term mindset. Here is what you can expect:
- Direct Review: Generally the fastest lane. The Board reviews the evidence already in your file.
- Evidence Submission: This lane allows you to submit new evidence within 90 days of your appeal, which can add more time to the wait.
- Hearing Lane: This is usually the longest path. You personally speak with a Veterans Law Judge, but the backlog means it can take significantly longer to get your day in court.
The timeline for a Board decision often spans years, not months. While the wait is long, the BVA is often your best chance for a fair look at complex claims.
Staying consistent and keeping your contact information updated is key while your appeal is pending. Your persistence will eventually pay off.
Are you currently waiting on a Board decision? Letโs talk about how to stay prepared during the wait. ๐

STRENGTH THROUGH UNITY
Established in 1949, Armed Forces Day brings our community together to celebrate everyone serving in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Space Force. Itโs a powerful reminder of the collective dedication required to protect our freedoms.
