💡 Tip of the Day: Letter of Recommendation 💡

A letter of recommendation is written for the purpose of boasting your skills and achievements. They are a strong endorsement of a student’s physical and/or academic qualities.

1. They should be written by a colleague, teacher, or previous employee who knows you well. Never by someone you’re related to. Make sure the person you are asking fit the requirements for the scholarship you’re applying for.
2. Give those who are writing your letters ample time to write one and to send it in (3-4 weeks in advance).
3. Make sure to give your recommender the necessary information like what the scholarship is about, the deadline, how and where to submit their letter, and if there are any other forms needed to be filled out.
4. Make sure to keep track of which recommenders have and haven’t sent their LOR. If needed, you can send a friendly reminder one week before the deadline.
5. Always thank your recommender!
