Here’s a fun coincidence…

The camera that captured these photos was built the same year as our Cirrus: 2009.

It’s a Leica M9, and it’s famous for one thing—the color. Some people call it a myth. It isn’t.

Inside is a Kodak CCD sensor, a sensor that will never be made again. The industry moved to CMOS because it was cheaper, faster, and easier to manufacture. But many photographers still believe nothing renders color quite like a Kodak CCD.

What fascinates me is how much the M9 reminds me of our Cirrus.

The interface is simple, logical, and purposeful—much like the Avidyne Entegra panel in this airplane. No unnecessary features. No distractions. Just everything you need, exactly where you expect it.

And fittingly, this Cirrus carries one of the last Avidyne Entegra systems ever installed.

A legacy camera.
A legacy airplane.

Neither is the fastest anymore. Neither has the latest technology.

But both were once state of the art. Both have stood the test of time. And both still inspire confidence every time they’re used.

Sometimes, the best tools aren’t the newest ones.

They’re the ones that simply get out of your way and let the artist—or the pilot—do what they love.
