International Day of Play at Imua Preschool 💫
Last week, communities around the world celebrated International Day of Play—a day dedicated to recognizing something children do naturally every day: play.
Play is far more than entertainment. It’s how children learn, communicate, build relationships, develop confidence, and make sense of the world around them. Research consistently shows that play supports cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development, making it a critical part of every child’s growth.
The International Day of Play was established by the United Nations to highlight play as a fundamental right of every child and to encourage families, educators, and communities to protect and prioritize opportunities for play.
At Imua, we see the power of play every day. Whether children are exploring new environments, practicing new skills, building friendships, or simply experiencing the joy of being a kid, play creates meaningful opportunities for learning, inclusion, and growth.
As we reflect on International Day of Play, we’re celebrating the moments of discovery, connection, and joy that happen through play—not just one day a year, but every day. 💙

Camp Imua 50th Anniversary Edition 🎉☀️🏕️
Camp Imua’s 50th anniversary celebration was filled with everything that makes camp so special: new experiences, lasting friendships, and a community where everyone belongs. 💙
From getting our hands dirty in the loʻi and stringing lei together to taking in Maui from above with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters and dancing the night away, every moment was a reminder of the magic that happens when children and youth of all abilities come together.
For 50 years, Camp Imua has created a place where children can build confidence, make meaningful connections, try new things, and simply be themselves. The friendships formed here often last far beyond camp, creating a sense of belonging that stays with campers and families throughout the year.
Here’s to 50 years of inclusion, adventure, laughter, and unforgettable memories—and to all the campers, counselors, families, volunteers, and supporters who make it possible. 🌈✨

Today, we honor the power of inclusion 💙
On May 24, 2026, the County of Maui officially proclaimed Community Inclusion Day, recognizing the importance of creating communities where every child and family feels valued, welcomed, and supported.
This proclamation celebrates more than a day—it celebrates a shared commitment to ensuring children of all abilities have opportunities to belong, connect, learn, play, and thrive. It recognizes the families, educators, service providers, volunteers, advocates, and community partners who work every day to build a more inclusive Maui Nui.
As Imua Family Services marks the completion of the 50th Anniversary of Camp Imua, this recognition is especially meaningful. For five decades, Camp Imua has created life-changing experiences for children with disabilities and special needs while fostering friendship, confidence, independence, and a deep sense of community.
Inclusion is not a program. It is a value. It is the belief that every person deserves to be seen, respected, and empowered to participate fully in community life.
Mahalo to Mayor Richard Bissen, Jr. and the County of Maui for recognizing the importance of inclusion and accessibility throughout our islands. Together, we continue building a Maui where everyone belongs.

These counselors are the light that will guide our golden summer 💛
With less than a week until our 50th Anniversary Camp Imua, our space was filled with the energy, passion, and purpose of Maui’s youth. Over the weekend, our teen counselors gathered for leadership training, preparing to support, encourage, and create unforgettable experiences for every camper they’ll meet this summer.
Mahalo to and for partnering with us and sharing their expertise with our Camp Leadership team. Together, we’re helping equip these young leaders with the skills, confidence, and compassion to make a difference—not just at camp, but in their communities for years to come.
Watching these teens step into leadership reminds us what Camp Imua has always been about: connection, belonging, and empowering every child to shine.
Next stop: Camp Imua! 💙✨
