Howdy Families,
This morning was already much better for drop-off! We still have a few areas where we can make the process even more efficient.
Morning Drop-Off
The biggest backup happens when cars park and wait in the drop-off lane. If you arrive very early (pre 8:00), you are welcome to park and wait. Once it is after 8:00, though, please have your student ready to exit and keep the line moving. I or one of my team members will begin coming outside around 8:10–8:15, so staff will be there to supervise students.
Please pull all the way forward before stopping. This one makes a huge difference. Even a few large gaps between cars can quickly create a backup that stretches well beyond the drop-off area.
Please have backpacks, lunches, and goodbyes taken care of before you reach the front. Once you stop, students should be ready to “drop and go.”
If the line is backed up and you would like to drop your student sooner, you may carefully use the second lane next to the parked cars. Please watch the vehicles around you and use extra caution. The crosswalk area is the safest location to unload if you choose this option.
Following these few steps will help tremendously. Once we get cars moving consistently, we can unload a large number of students pretty quickly.
Afternoon Pick-Up
For this afternoon, please bear with us as we continue making adjustments. Yesterday’s traffic volume was significantly heavier than what we typically experienced last year, particularly with the number of cars arriving early.
Remember that we also have a pick-up lane in the back of the school. That lane moved pretty well yesterday and is another option for families. I know I said 6th and 7th only...but if you need another choice, it's there.
If your student has a phone, please touch base with them as you approach the front/back so they can locate you and hop right in.
Our SRO is working with the district to help traffic move through the light at FM 156 as efficiently as possible.
If you do not need to arrive early, there is no need to rush to campus 30-45 minute early. Your student will be supervised and will be fine waiting a few extra minutes. Yesterday, cars arriving and parking early caused the line to extend back into Texan Drive, which then interfered with high school dismissal traffic.
We appreciate everyone working with us as we continue to improve the process. Each day should get smoother as families learn the new traffic patterns and we make adjustments based on what we see.
Keep Believing!!
Mr. D
