Time to override the veto!

The Alaska AFL-CIO responds to Dunleavy's veto of HB 78 and calls on lawmakers to override.

Mary Peltola, candidate for U.S. Senate, dropped by the monthly Juneau Central Labor Council meeting this week. The group discussed a multitude of federal issues impacting workers in Alaska. Now, more than ever, working people need a strong voice in Washington.

On Workers Memorial Day, America’s unions mourn the workers who have lost their lives or been injured or made ill on the job. Every worker should be able to go home after their shift safe and healthy, and we’ll keep fighting like hell to make that a reality for every worker.

The AFL-CIO wrapped up its Legislative Fly-in two weeks ago, and now the legislature is on the final stretch towards adjournment in May. The key issues put forward by legislators who are also members of unions are now on the front burner including work this week in the Senate Finance on the capital budget and HB 78 Defined Benefit Pensions for Public Employees. The House will take up the Operating Budget on the floor soon. Both bodies hope to address increase funding for public education and monitor proposals for nursing compacts.
