Hello Piute School District! My name is Jason Strate, and I am excited to serve the community of Piute and represent the families, parents, children, and employees in our district.

I have spent the majority of my life and career in rural Utah and I understand the challenges that small districts face. I was born and raised in Spring City, Utah—the youngest of three boys, all of whom are educators. After graduating from North Sanpete High School in 1990 and serving a mission for my church, I began my education and married Julie Jensen from Mt. Pleasant.

I earned an Associate of Science from Snow College, a Bachelor's and Master's of Science from Utah State University, and an Administrator’s License from Southern Utah University. My career in education began teaching Technology, Multimedia, and Engineering with North Sanpete School District, where I also coached football and wrestling.

In 2008, I was named Assistant Principal of North Sanpete High School, and in 2010, I became the Principal of North Sanpete Middle School. Since 2014, I have served as the Director at Central Utah Educational Services.

Julie and I are the parents of four children—one boy and three girls. Julie currently teaches kindergarten at Ashman Elementary in Richfield. Outside of work, I am active in my church and community and enjoy the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking.

School Construction Update - 8/19/25

Circleville Elementary School
The school foundation footers are being poured this week. The full concrete pad is expected to be completed by mid-September. The block for the walls is expected to arrive in mid to late September. Walls are expected to start going up in October.

Oscarson Elementary School
The building lot is nearly excavated to the expected level for the new building. Over the next two weeks asbestos abatement will be completed and the old gymnasium will be torn down. Once the old gym is removed from the site, additional dirt work will be completed to prepare for the building foundation.

New Softball Field
Last Friday Piute High School students put down the sod on the new field. The students worked very hard and got the project done very quickly. The dugout walls are more than halfway completed. Upon completion of the dugouts, the concrete behind the backstop will be poured. The infield material will arrive in the next few weeks. Jenkins Oil and Mountain America Credit Union have agreed to cover the cost of the new scoreboard. It will be the same scoreboard as the baseball field. The metal shop students will build the same header for the softball scoreboard. The field will be ready for play for spring 2026. The new restrooms are still in the design phase but are currently anticipated to be placed on the east side of the baseball field midway to the new softball field.
