We are loving this garden and seed study! Our classroom has turned into a greenhouse with grass cups, a root viewer, herbs, and flowers to observe. They are asking great questions and learning so much through their investigations. We are excited to watch everything continue to grow over the next few weeks!

To begin our seed and garden investigations we started two chia pets! The morning class did Poppy and the afternoon class did Sonic. We are excited to watch them grow over the next couple weeks. We also opened a new fine motor and math toy that got us learning about parts of a flower, making patterns, identifying colors, measuring, counting, and discussing insects that pollinate.

We have started a seed collection in our science center that we plan to add to and observe throughout our study! Thank you to those of you that have sent things in for our centers!

We are beginning a new project study! Seeds and Gardening! In Phase 1 last week we started brainstorming everything we already know about seeds and created our web. We have also started a list of questions that we want to answer during our investigations. A couple books got us excited about learning more and we wrote down some new vocabulary words to figure out. Today I had some students in the afternoon class helping me create things to add to our dramatic play center which is in the process of being turned into a Garden Shop.

We made a banner and pretend garden rows from pool noodles and a towel. They got to help figure out how we were going to attach the pool noodles together and we decided on popsicle sticks, hot glue, and duct tape! They love being involved in the process of transforming the center. Stay tuned for more on our seed study!!

Update: Time is 5:30-7:30

This event was just shared with us today so we apologize for the late notice but the ROE is having BlockFEST this Friday! All Mercer County Pre-K families are invited to attend for a fun family night! This looks like a hands on, interactive event and I believe you even get to take some blocks home.

We turned our dramatic play area into a winter wonderland complete with a hot coco stand, ice skating, an igloo, and ice fishing. A lot of what we added to the center was student made including the fish, signs for different areas, and the igloo. On the ice skating rink we practiced one leg spins and how to “skate” by pushing our feet forward without picking them up. This will be such a fun pretend play space for the next few weeks!

We finally got a chance to play in the snow this week and they had a great time ❄️ The kid sized shovels were a big hit!

As of now, we plan to run the routes next week as we did on Thursday. We will return to normal as soon as road conditions as a whole get better.

If things would happen to get worse with the rain coming in next week and roads become icy .... we may pull back a bit more but we will reach out if and when that becomes necessary.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation .... and have a great weekend!
