Fifth-graders at Plum Creek Elementary School read a story that explained how one kind act can lead to many more, like ripples in water! After reading and a group discussion, each student came up with their own ideas for how they could show kindness throughout the year. To illustrate the concept, they each tossed a stone into water to watch the ripples spread.

Dear Joshua High School families,

The campus temporarily has limited phone service due to disrupted service lines.

At the moment, there is no expected time when full service will be restored. Our technology department is working diligently with our providers.

FINAL UPDATE | 4:24 p.m.

Dear Elder Elementary families,

We truly appreciate your patience and understanding during this situation and we are thankful for your help adjusting this afternoon.

JISD would like to thank our staff and students, once again, for calmly following the processes we have in place. This is a testament to the drills that are practiced during the year.

Finally, we are grateful for those who swiftly responded to the situation to keep our community safe.

UPDATE 2 | 3:54 p.m.

Dear Elder Elementary families,

Due to the fire, Elder Elementary and the Joshua ISD Administration Building do not have power and limited phone service.

UPDATE 1 | 3:33 p.m.

Dear Elder Elementary families,

Student dismissal will take place on the north side of the campus near McMillain Street and Bentley Drive. Joshua ISD police officers and City of Joshua police officers will be on scene directing traffic.

Since students were moved from their classrooms to the cafeteria as a precautionary measure, they will not have their belongings such as backpacks. They will be able to retrieve them at school on Monday, August 24.

We appreciate our staff and students for following protocols and calmly handling the situation. This is a testament to the drills conducted throughout the year.

We also thank those who quickly responded to the situation to keep our students, staff and community safe.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

ORIGINAL POST at 3:15 p.m.

Dear Elder Elementary families,

Student and staff safety is always a top priority in JISD, and we are writing to let you know about an incident that is currently occurring near Elder Elementary.

A residence across the street from the campus has caught fire. The fire department is on scene. All students and staff are safe inside the building.

Out of an abundance of caution, the campus has been placed on “Hold.” Normally, in a “Hold” campus staff and students stay in their classrooms until the situation is resolved. In this case, all students and staff have been moved to the cafeteria which is further away from the fire.

Once the situation has been resolved, additional communication will be sent.
