I'm in the beginning stages of writing a Faerie Jane underwater faerie tale. I'm creating a character inspired by the great Paul Watson. I'm so happy he's free after 5 months in a Greenland prison. It was concerning to think he could be extradited to Japan, which would be a death sentence. What a great interview, especially the moment where he saw himself in the whale's eye. Did you know whale oil is an ingredient in ballistic missiles?

Do you know how important whales are to human survival? They are the "farmers of the ocean". Arguably even more important than trees. I love what he said about us possibly being able to communicate with whales with the help of AI. Wow! Imagine what we could learn.

As I continue developing the story of Big Brother Bamboo (working title), I’m excited to introduce one of its central characters: A beautiful Crested Ibis, an endangered species. The Ibis is a water bird but breeds in the forest, which is where our story takes place.

Her character goes from grieving mother, screaming for vengeance– to rebel leader, inspiring others in the fight for freedom and balance in their world.

I’m considering naming her Lijia, as a tribute to the courageous Chinese author Lijia Zhang, whose work sheds light on themes of justice, resistance, and humanity. Just as Zhang uses her voice to bring awareness to important issues, Lijia the Ibis carries her message to the highest highs of the Jade Mountain to the shapeshifting Faerie (yet to be named) and across the forest, uniting those who dare to dream of a better future beyond the bamboo bars of the Black Forest.

The Crested Ibis’ is not only beautiful but also serves a reminder of how precious and fragile life is. Some call it the Panda of birds due to its degree of endangeredness. They are most colorful in flight when their soft orange underwings are revealed.

This artwork is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to share more of LiJia’s story with you as it unfolds. What do you think of her so far?

I’m doing research for my next tale, which features a faerie that shapeshifts into a beautiful benevolent 9-tailed white fox, known as the Huli Jing (Chinese: 狐狸精).

Huli Jing are Chinese mythological creatures usually capable of shapeshifting, who may either be benevolent or malevolent spirits. In Chinese mythology and folklore, the fox spirit takes variant forms with different meanings, powers.

My story takes place in a genetically modified, AI-enhanced bamboo forest that spies on its inhabitants. The story features elements of living in a police-state with constant surveillance under the guise of safety.

This is an excellent video featuring several mythological animals. I really love the part about dragons! And the Chinese version of the unicorn, of course. The hosts’ mastery of the Chinese language is impressive too.
