this week's : the lovers inverted.
(got myself this deck as a treat & wanted to use it a bit more! so here we are).
the lovers is of course a card about love, so when reversed it can indicate relationship immaturity. are you still dreaming of a prince(ss) charming to come sweep you off your feet? they probably ain't coming. & not because you don't deserve love, but because that storybook s**t doesn't exist. we're all real people here. is it time to be more grounded in our expectations? no one can be a knight in shining armor all the time & putting them on that pedestal sucks for them & sucks for you.
since I am generally averse to love (it's so boring... lol gemini vibes) I tend to read the lovers as a card about the unification of the disparate elements of our Self. the harmony when our head & our heart are in sync. of course, reversed that harmony is out of whack. the connection is fu**ed up & fogged over. so how can we, this week, find ways to get more clarity on how to unite our thinking brain & our feeling soul? what might working toward that unification look like? let's put that s**t into practice so we can be integrated bi***es. ❤️

this week's : the star.
well y'all I been SLACKIN' on the tarot front. a friend gifted me this incredible deck so I thought I'd give it a go for this week's card to help me get inspired & back on track.
the star is a fitting card for it! she's all about hope & being open to what comes. she doesn't believe in hiding her light. it doesn't matter how many times she may have been hurt she refuses to make herself small & hide. there's no hiding here! that's what we'll practice this week. staying open. staying hopeful. refusing to be sunk by doom, no matter how bleak s**t may look. that's a tall fu***ng ask considering the state of the world at the moment, but it's also likely to be the only way forward. ❤️

this week's : 4 of pentacles reversed.
it's time to consider that perhaps using *things* to define our selves has some downsides. when we don't cultivate our core self it's reeeeaaalllll easy to blow us off course. we start to feel like if we only had X external thing we'd be secure (I'm not talking about survival stuff—food, shelter, etc—those are requirements). funny thing is, when we then get X external thing we realize there's something ELSE we "need" instead. & on & on it goes. the four of pentacles reversed is asking us to consider who we are outside of all our stuff, so this week spend some time considering who is the person under all your clothes & gadgets & products & toys. what can you do to make them more secure? how can you work toward a fixed sense of self in a absolutely fu***ng wild & chaotic world? that's the project. as a gemini I say: LOL GOOD LUCK. ❤️

this week's : king of swords reversed.
well.... whoops I took a little bit of a hiatus which was extended by instagram being down for half the day today! but I'm back now!!
upright the king of swords is the epitome of wisdom & good leadership. he's sharp as hell (pun intended) & knows how to set an example. reversed tho...... those skills are corrupted. instead of using his wisdom for the benefit of his people he uses it only for the betterment of himself. reversed he's a glutton for power & all the selfish perks that come with it. he doesn't care about the world around him, he cares only about his bottom line. & he'll lie, cheat, & steal to fill his own pockets. sounds like more than a few leaders I know!
this week's card is a reminder that all the wisdom, all the power, & all the followers in the world are meaningless if your work is only for yourself. power won't soothe you or keep you company. it won't fill any voids. it doesn't bring joy. power without community is just building yourself a throne atop ash & bones. it may *seem* like all you need is money & rank, but that's an illusion. with mercury retrograde manipulations can come to light & this reversed king may see his corruption brought out from the shadows. the message for this week is to use your powers for good. to use them for the benefit the many as opposed to the few. maybe you've lost your way in the capitalist grind? the king of swords reminds us that the truest expression of who we are is how we behave when no one is looking. we must use our intelligence to do more than stroke our own ego. practice serving something more than your self. ❤️

this week's : 9 of wands⁠
when you've spent so much of your life in battle mode it can be incredibly difficult to get out of that conflict mentality. this scarcity frame goes around everything & starts to convince us that life is a constant battle between people seeking limited resources.⁠
this is BU****IT. scarcity is bu****it. scarcity is manufactured by capitalism to turn a profit. reject it. refuse to be ever vigilant that *someone* might get something you think you deserve more. reject the idea that we need to do something to "deserve" peace & happiness & health & connection. we don't need to earn the embellishments of a human life. we deserve those things simply because we exist & everyone else deserves them too. capitalism turns us against each other, we are trained to be ever on the lookout for people not "earning" their keep so we can blame them for the institution of capitalism–which REQUIRES poverty & suffering in order to function. don't play the game. don't be a cop for capitalism. we are ALL worthy. ❤️

this week's tarot: the tower reversed.
OOOF. I pulled this one & said "oh damn". but then I thought about it a little bit & the tower reversed is actually kinda the perfect way to describe this moment. the world as we knew it is literally collapsing all around us. the climate is unsustainably fu**ed. governments across the u.s. (& let's be real the world) are a s**t throwing contest. we have a spoiled fascist conglomerate pitching a fit that they've been asked to behave like adults who give a f**k about the common good. & WE STILL HAVE TO GO TO FU***NG WORK?? no cool mad max cars??? I still gotta answer fu***ng emails???? SOUNDS LIKE A SCAM.
well, it is a scam. capitalism was always a scam. I think the tower reversed perfectly describes the kind of simmering doom we're operating in here. if there was the big explosion from the card upright that would almost feel cathartic. but instead we just have s**t falling apart all around us.
so what do we DO? the situations that show themselves in the tower are not ones we can avoid. this s**t is happening. but that doesn't mean despair. rather it's a moment to consider what we'll build after the tower has come down. after all the s**t that is collapsing has collapsed. what's next? what do we want to grow?
focus on that this week. what world are you building for yourself & your community, what will it look like? how will it function? it's sooooo easy to be overwhelmed by the dread so I think our best bet is to keep slogging on, at least for the moment. a better world is possible, we just gotta destroy the old one first. ❤️

this week's : 4 of wands.
tell ya what, it feels really fu***ng bizarre to pull this card—one of the most positive in the entire deck—in the midst of aaaaaalllllllll the s**t we have going down. at first it's a relief but then I was like: cards, WTAF you talking about??? the world is TRASH!!!
the 4 of wands is about celebration & joy & healing & all that good s**t, but it's also about the route freedom takes through optimism. it's not that the big scary s**t doesn't exist, it's that we choose to cultivate our joy, support each other, & uplift our community & THAT is what carries us over the walls of that blocked off city in the background. it's a kind of "if you build it they will come" situation but for celebration. so, this week find moments for joy, moments for celebration. they might be real small, but that doesn't matter. the fullness of our lives is contingent upon the communities that we build & sustain, so turn your energy toward the building blocks of optimism this week. finding joy has the funny effect of drawing more joy in. ❤️

this week's : 8 of swords reversed
we're learning something this week y'all. we're learning that we have a few more options than we previously thought. does that mean things are all sunshine & fu***ng daisies? no it does not. but we may not be *as* blocked in as we thought. what's the first step to this realization? what's the first step toward freedom? taking off our blindfolds & refusing to keep averting our eyes. you can only see possibilities when you're actually fu***ng LOOKING at the situation you're in. solutions can only be found when you're HONEST about where you at & how you got there. how are you gonna chuck your own personal blindfold this week? what have you been refusing to see for too long? look it straight in the fu***ng face & say: ok. let's get to work. ❤️

this week's - queen of wands
as much as it fu***ng sucks & is SUPER annoying the ways in which care for ourselves actually are the foundation for everything else. UGGGHHHH.
how are you caring for your self? how are you showing yourself love? the care with which we treat ourselves is the miracle grow for our creativity, for our passion, & for our healing. in a culture that constantly wants to crush you under the boot, showing yourself tender care is a radical fu***ng act.
so, this week let's show ourselves some love. let's make plans & space for tender self-compassion. let's remind ourselves how fu***ng loved we are.
BUT let's also remember that loving isn't an excuse for a lack of accountability. it's not a get-out-of-jail-free card. sometimes the most compassionate thing we can do for our own growth is to acknowledge when we have fu**ed s**t up or done wrong. it's not about punishment, it's about trusting ourselves enough to be honest. ❤️

this week's a day late & a double!
strength & the 8 of wands.
these two little ladies literally FLEW out the deck as I was shuffling. they WANTED TO BE SEEN. & honestly, I needed it cuz this is a cheerful AF message in a time of unprecedented d-o-o-m.
the strength card is about strength, yes, but it's not brute force. it's not lifting cars or flipping those giant tires in the cross fit gym. it's quiet confidence. it's mind over matter. it's being able to handle even difficult circumstances with grace (just like the lady in the picture, taming that lion with no weapons, just her dedicated hands).
the 8 of wands too is a card of positivity. it's one that shows forward momentum, progress made, & enthusiasm rekindled.
looking at these two together my first thought was: lol cards have you SEEN the state of the fu***ng world right now????? but sitting with it for a bit I start to get what they're talking about. the world is made in every day actions. it's not like the movies where everything is decided by one HUGE choice. it's the things we do every day. the decisions we make that seem small. those all add up to our lives & to the world in which we live. so how can we, this week, make choices that lead with grace? choices that are determined AF but not harsh. those are what bring us progress. those are what bring us into the positive change. let's make those kinds of choices this week, no matter how small or large. ❤️
