What an accomplishment for Ally to compete in a nationwide girl's baseball tournament. We are so proud of her breaking down barriers.

But it raises the question, if Ally continues to play baseball, possibly at Jordan, would she be a Hubmen or a Jaguar?

One Mascot Supporters,

Based on the results of the community and student surveys, the school board has chosen not to make any changes in our school mascots. There was a lot of community support for a change, but not enough for the board to act on a change at this point.

Even though we did not bring about the change we had hoped, the campaign brought light to many people about our situation and the impact it has on ALL students. We believe this has been a positive experience for the board, the administration, the students and the community. We have learned so much through this experience.

Thank you to everyone who supported this effort. I am happy to say that I am so proud of all of our supporters; you were all very respectful while still feeling passion behind this topic, and I thank you for that. Your voice was heard.

Final chance to fill out your mascot survey which closes on February 20th!

It is preached to kids today that they should include everyone no matter what gender, sexuality, religion, or race. But we still separate genders in our schools? We should all be united, together as one.

Fill out your survey for one mascot at the link below.

Jordan School District Residents and Alumni:

Please fill out this survey. Keep in mind that over half of our activities/clubs/athletics are not represented by a mascot at all. Three options for One Mascot. Just choose one of them.

Please read.

There are now hundreds of students who participate in athletics/activities/clubs that did not exist five, ten, or twenty years ago. All of these students wear Jordan pride every single day they walk into school, yet most do not identify with a mascot.

Consider these facts:
- There are over 28 athletic/activities/clubs at JHS
- Only five are identified with Hubmen mascot, football, soccer, basketball, baseball, and Hubmen Chorus.
- Only eight are identified by the Jaguar mascot, volleyball, soccer, dance, cheerleading, basketball, softball, Jaguar Women's Choral, and tennis
- That leaves 15 activities left are not identified by a mascot, track and field, student council, cross country, golf, trap shooting, contest one act, Knowledge Bowl, Robotics Team, Speech Team, Student Athletic Association, National Honor Society, SADD, Spanish Club, band, and Concert Choir.

That means only 18% are represented by Hubmen, and 28% are represented by Jaguars. That leaves 54% of student organizations without any mascot representation.

It's about so much more than what a team is "named." It is about a sense of belonging. It is about a sense of community. It is about school pride-no matter what you do in school. Everyone who walks in the school doors should be represented in the the same way, even if we have different genders, religions, skin color, culture, languages, etc. We should all be connected by one form, that form being a mascot. And right now, we are not.

We believe it is time one mascot represents ALL of the students at Jordan High School.

The Contest One Act play is going to Section 2A Final for the first time in over 10 years! A group of 20 students that have worked very hard for this accomplishment.

These student performers have just as much pride as any athlete who may be represented by a mascot. But these students have no mascot representation for their school pride.

They are not Hubmen or Jaguars. They are just Jordan.

Here's another great example of the changing face of the Jordan School District.

The Trap Shooting team is one of the many teams/activities that did not exist 20 years ago. In the 2015-2016 spring season, they had 36 members, and participated MSHSCTL Trap Shooting Championship. Because they are a co-gender team/activity, they do not have a mascot to rally around.

Here is an example of one of the teams at Jordan not represented by either the Hubmen or Jaguar mascot.

This picture is of the 2015-2016 Minnesota River Conference Champion Speech Team.

The approximate 80 members of the Speech Team can not be identified by either Hubmen or Jaguars.

The Jordan community will soon have a chance to weigh in on the mascot debate.

Will the school mascots Hubmen and Jaguars remain, or will the community decide to change to one unifying mascot or pursue a new mascot name?
