Our MSSU Concert Chorale started their year with with a time for some games and tomfoolery!

Last night, MSSU choral musicians gathered for dinner, rehearsal, Chorale Bingo, and a cutthroat Musical Chairs game. No tenors were harmed in the making of this post.

The Southern Choirs look forward to presenting their Fall Concert, "The American Voice," Friday, October 16, 7:30pm at First Church, Joplin in downtown Joplin.

AND OUR FIRST EVENT OF THE 2026-2027 YEAR IS HERE!!

Please join us at the Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex Tuesday, September 1 at 7:30p for a faculty recital presented by our Adjunct Piano Professor, Kathy Nenadal.

Professor Nenedal will present an evening of musical theater selections featuring a group of guest vocalists. The program will showcase works by renowned composers including Stephen Schwartz, William Finn, Jason Robert Brown, and John LaChiusa, along with music from other notable voices in musical theater.

AND THAT IS A WRAP!

The MSSU Lion Pride Band had an incredible band camp this week capped off by welcoming new students to Southern through the traditional Spirit Tunnel. Even Roary joined us to usher in the 2026-2027 academic year!

We will see all of our performing arts Lions this week in classes, rehearsal spaces, concert/theatre stages, and of course, the field at Hughes Stadium as we cheer the Lions to victory!

Our MSSU Theatre troupe is well into rehearsals preparing for a touring production of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" directed by Adjunct Professor of Theatre James Paul Dickey.

"Much Ado.." is a comedy about love, deception, and making a big deal out of nothing. All the drama. None of the consequences.

Show dates are September 14-17, 2026 with performances in Carthage, at the Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex, and in Neosho.
