🌭 Mummification is underway in Mr. Epperson's 7th Grade Social Studies class!

As students learn about ancient Egyptian burial practices, they’re trying out the mummification process for themselves using hot dogs. Yesterday, they began by "removing the organs" and starting the drying process. We can’t wait to see how their mummies turn out! ⚱️

The East Middle School Vocal Department presented "Shadows and Octaves" and the East & South Middle School orchestras performed 'The Creepy Concert."

A big thank-you to our music directors, Mrs. Lisa Bromley-Wolfe and Mrs. Kylee VanHorn, our accompanist, Mr. Tyler Graves, and our talented student musicians for making these concerts such a fun part of the season! 🎶🕸️

📢 Joplin Middle School Wrestling will be starting this week!

Eligibility is based on both grades and completed paperwork:
- You must pass 6 out of 7 classes during the first quarter of this school year to be eligible to wrestle.
- You must have a current physical on file.
- Students must complete the required forms through PowerSchool.

Start Dates
- Practice will be at North Middle School - Buses will bring your child to North Middle School for practice. We will practice from 4:00 until 6:00. Athletes will need to be picked up at North at 6:00.
- Students not participating in a fall sport: Wrestling begins October 12th.
- Students participating in a fall sport: Your wrestling start date will be after your fall sports season ends.
Example: Football players will be able to start wrestling October 19th.

Required Forms
Parents/Guardians need to complete:
- Consent Form
- Insurance Form
- Current Health & Injury Form
Students need to complete in PowerSchool:

Today the combined Joplin Middle Schools 8th Grade Marching Band competed in their very first parade. They marched in the MSSU Homecoming Parade and performed “Shake It Off,” by pop artist Taylor Swift.

Our students did an outstanding job and earned 1st place in their division.

⚡️ Who says a library is just for books?

At East Middle School, our library is also a place to experiment, problem-solve, and discover how things work! Thanks to our partnership with the Joplin Public Library, students are getting hands-on experience with STEM activities that challenge them to think, build, test, and troubleshoot.

Whether they’re connecting circuits, figuring out how components work together, or collaborating to solve a problem, students are discovering that learning can happen in some pretty unexpected ways!

We’re grateful to the Joplin Public Library for helping us bring these opportunities to our students. 💡

The cost to purchase is $15, and the discounts are valid through November 1st, 2027.
